Colon's 43-point game gives him Player of the Week award- August 1, 2022
He had the game-high 43 points adding six rebounds and five assists for Caballeros in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Guerreros (#6, 1-8) with 54-point margin 125-71. Thanks to this victory Caballeros moved-up to the 8th position in Ecuadorian league. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. They are still not able to win a single game in the league yet. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Caballeros won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Colon had a remarkable 68.4% from 2-point range. He turned to be Caballeros' top player in his first season with the team. Winston Salem State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Colon is league's best scorer averaging so far 26.3ppg. Colon is in league's top in assists (7th best: 3.4apg) and averages solid 50.6% FGP. Second best performed player last round was Carlos Delgado (202-F/C-1990). He is international forward in his first season at Caballeros. In the last game Delgado recorded impressive 33 points and 6 rebounds. Of course together with Colon he helped Caballeros with another comfortable win outscoring slightly higher-ranked Guerreros (#6, 1-8) 125-71. Despite this victory Caballeros slide down in the standings to the very bottom. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won their first game. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Delgado is a newcomer at Caballeros and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.8ppg (#7). He also registered 6.5 boards per game. Third place about best performers goes to guard Arath Polanco (G-2003) of Guerreros (#6). Polanco showcased his all-around game by recording 27 points, eleven rebounds (!!!) and five assists in the last round. Despite Polanco's great performance Guerreros lost 71-125 to Caballeros (#8, 0-0). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Guerreros can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-8 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Polanco he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Polanco has individually a great season in Ecuador. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.4ppg (3rd best). Other top performing players last week: 4.
