Canadian Guard Arianna Macias (175-G-1997) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked Union Deportiva Juvenil Quininde, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1.
The 27-year old player was the main contributor (30 points, eight rebounds) to her team's victory, helping them to beat Ambato S. (#3, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 71-62. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Thanks to this victory UDJ moved-up to the 2nd position in Ecuadorian Liga Femenina. But it's just the very beginning of the season and UDJ won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Macias had a remarkable 72.7% from 2-point range. She turned to be UDJ's top player in her first season with the team. Former Saint Mary's University star has very solid stats this year. Macias is league's best scorer averaging so far 23.0ppg. Macias is in league's top in rebounds (7th best: 9.5rpg) and averages impressive 3.0spg,61.5% FGP and 50.0% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was young international center Nahomy Nazareno (185-C-2007) of Ambato Soldiers. Nazareno had a very good evening with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Bad luck as Ambato S. lost that game 50-66 to UDJ (2-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Nazareno is a newcomer at Ambato S., but is already one of team's top players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 14.5ppg (#3). She also registered 16.0 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Ambato S.'s star - Colombian center Angely Mendez (175-C-2000). Mendez scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds (!!!). Despite Mendez's great performance the Ambato Soldiers lost 62-71 to #2 ranked UDJ. But her team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Ambato S. can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 2 games. Mendez has individually a great season in Ecuador. After only 2 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 11.0ppg (6th best), rebounds with 9.0rpg (8th best) and assists with 2.0apg (8th best).
