Piratas de los Lagos Crowned Ecuador's First Women's Pro Basketball Champions- June 8, 2026History has its first name. Piratas de los Lagos pulled away from Importadora Alvarado for an 89-75 road win in Game 4 of the final, closing out the best-of-five series 3-1 to be crowned champions of the inaugural Liga BásquetPro Femenina, Ecuador's first professional women's basketball league.
The Ibarra side left little doubt on the decisive night, racing to a commanding 54-35 lead by halftime and managing the cushion the rest of the way to spark their title celebrations in Importadora's own building. It was a fitting end to a series Piratas controlled: they had taken Game 1 62-51 and, after Importadora hit back with an 86-69 win in Game 2 to level the series, the Ibarra team responded with an 84-69 victory in Game 3 and the clinching win in Game 4. The triumph caps a landmark season for the women's game in Ecuador. Launched in 2026 with seven teams drawn from cities across the country and built through a national player draft supplemented by foreign reinforcements, the league set out to push the development of women's basketball and it ends its first chapter with Piratas de los Lagos as its standard-bearers. Importadora Alvarado, the Ambato franchise that had reached the final on the back of a strong playoff run, were left to settle for runners-up in the first edition. |
