Brujos Izalco - Aguila 85-55

Brujoz Izalco cruised past Aguila in the opener. Brujos Izalco dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Aguila's 40. They outrebounded Aguila 57-25 including a 38-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Brujos Izalco players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 13 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 22 rebounds, 5 assists and 9 blocks (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). His fellow American import swingman JaCarre Crockett (190-96, college: Philander Smith) contributed with 19 points and 8 assists for the winners. Five Brujos Izalco players scored in double figures. American-Colombian forward Freddy Asprilla (208-88, college: Canisius) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks and Cuban point guard Osmel Oliva (178-87) added 19 points in the effort for Aguila. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

Quezaltepeque topped San Salvador in Game 1. The game was dominated by American players. It was a very good performance for Eddie Ishman (196-86, college: Miles) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Point guard Anthony Brown (196-89, college: Imperial Valley JC) contributed with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward James Milton (204-92, college: Stevenson) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and forward RJ McGhee (198, college: Oklahoma City) added 23 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for San Salvador. Four Quezaltepeque and five San Salvador players scored in double figures. San Salvador's coach Yull Scott rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

Santa Tecla stormed past Halcones for the first win. Santa Tecla forced 22 Halcones turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Cuban Lisvan Valdes (196-88) fired 39 points (!!!) and 5 steals for the winners. Cuban Yuniskel Molina (177-93) chipped in 24 points and 4 assists. American forward Marcus Faison (196-94, college: Salem St.) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import power forward Darian Barnes (206-93, college: Neumann) added 16 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
