Cojute - Aguila 75-69 The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Cojute's (5-5) home victory over 5th ranked Aguila (3-6) in Cojutepeque 75-69. They outrebounded Aguila 49-35 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. American Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNCP) stepped up and scored 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) chipped in 14 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Cojute players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Lee Vasquez (177-91) with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Cojute maintains fourth place with 5-5 record. Aguila at the other side dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Cojute will play against bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (#8) on the road in the next round. Aguila will play against Brujos and it may be a tough game between close rivals. This time they crushed eighth ranked Chalchuapa (1-8) 126-79. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 46. Santa Tecla forced 21 Chalchuapa turnovers and had a 36-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. Puerto Rican forward Owens Perez (203-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 18 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and Carlos Alas (181-79) chipped in 24 points. Five Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Jose Ortiz (190-90, college: DelVal) with 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Chad Fortenberry-Miller (201-91, college: MacMurray) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 18 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 10-0 record. Chalchuapa at the other side stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Santa Tecla will play against league's second-placed Santa Ana at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Chalchuapa will play against Cojute (#4) to get more than just one victory in their record. Santa Ana was defeated by Brujos in a tough game in Izalco 88-94. Brujos looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks. American center Troidell Carter (206, college: Slippery Rock) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Brujos' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Ron Lawton (196-95, college: NMHU) answered with 27 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and guard Benjamin Colocho (186-99) added 23 points in the effort for Santa Ana. Five Brujos and four Santa Ana players scored in double figures. Brujos maintains fifth place with 4-6 record. Santa Ana at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Brujos are looking forward to face Aguila (#6) in San Miguel in the next round. Santa Ana will play on the road against the league's leader Santa Tecla (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
