Liga MB Round 3 of Quarter-Finals. Santa Tecla, Santa Ana and San Salvador advance

Santa Tecla - Chalchuapa 122-79

Santa Tecla eased past Chalchuapa to sweep the series. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 86 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 48. Santa Tecla forced 25 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 48-29 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santa Tecla looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for guard Brian Vasquez (190) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 5 rebounds. Center Carlos Arias (200-89) helped adding 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Jose Ortiz (190-90, college: DelVal) with 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and the other American import guard Chad Fortenberry-Miller (201-91, college: MacMurray) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Cojute - Aguila 63-71

Aguila fired past Cojute on the road to take 2-1 lead. Strangely Cojute outrebounded Aguila 61-43 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Aguila made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 16 rebounds. Lee Vasquez (177-91) helped adding 35 points (!!!), 5 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was American swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 25 rebounds and the other American import Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNCP) scored 12 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Cojute players scored in double figures.

Santa Ana - Fantasmas 107-81

Santa Ana breezed past Fantasmas to complete the sweep. Santa Ana dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Fantasmas' 42. Santa Ana forced 24 Fantasmas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Fantasmas' players. It was a great evening for American Eddie Ishman (196-86, college: Miles) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. His fellow American import center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) helped adding 16 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. The best for the losing side was point guard Francisco Mendoza (180-0) with 30 points and 7 rebounds and guard Carlos Hernandez (185-1) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.

San Salvador outgunned Brujos to advance into the semifinal stage. 32 personal fouls committed by Brujos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American Chris Blake (195-88, college: Detroit) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Eduardo Escalante (181-93) helped adding 31 points and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Guyanese-American power forward Anthony Moe (207-90, college: Millersville) with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Cuban point guard Osmel Oliva (180-87) scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Brujos' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.
