Liga MB Round 14: Brujos are defeated by Santa Ana

The most important game in the last round took place in Izalco between third ranked Brujos (7-4) and fourth ranked Santa Ana (8-4) on Wednesday night. Brujos were defeated by Santa Ana in a tough game at home 87-96. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Brujos. Santa Ana forced 20 Brujos turnovers. Erick Rojas (183-96) scored 31 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Maurice Taylor (198-94, college: Niagara) chipped in 20 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Guyanese-American center Anthony Moe (206-90, college: Millersville) responded with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks. Brujos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santa Ana moved-up to third place. Brujos at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Santa Tecla. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Aguila have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 11-1 record. Santa Ana at the other side dropped to the third place with four games lost. Aguila will play against bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santa Ana will have a break next round.

Defending champion Santa Tecla dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Brujos. Aguila will meet at home bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santa Tecla will play against Santiagueno (#9) and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 14 bottom-ranked Chalchuapa was destroyed by San Salvador on the opponent's court 108-74.

Santa Ana - Aguila 84-99

The game between Top Four teams took place in Santa Ana. 4th ranked host Santa Ana (8-4) lost to first ranked Aguila (11-1) 99-84. Aguila outrebounded Santa Ana 51-37 including 22 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Point guard Martin Ramos (171-92) notched 26 points and 8 assists to lead the effort and Lee Vasquez (176-91) supported him with 14 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Aguila players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 17 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists by American forward Maurice Taylor (198-94, college: Niagara) did not help to save the game for Santa Ana. Very expected game when 10th ranked Chalchuapa (1-11) was crushed on the road by second ranked San Salvador (9-1) 108-74 on Wednesday. San Salvador dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 34. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 54-34 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. San Salvador looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. The best player for the winners was American swingman Eddie Ishman (197-86, college: Miles) who had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import power forward Jacara Cross (204-98, college: JSU, agency: Ballerz Unlimited LLC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Five San Salvador players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-87, college: App State) produced 38 points (!!!) and 4 assists and American forward Willie Wiley (201, college: Evansville) added 21 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Chalchuapa's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. San Salvador have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 9-1 record having 2 victories less than leader Aguila. Loser Chalchuapa stay at the bottom place with 11 games lost. San Salvador will meet El Rapido (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Chalchuapa will play against the league's leader Aguila in San Miguel and hope to win that game.
