Liga MB Round 10: Santa Tecla beat Cojute in the most crucial game of the week

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Santa Tecla. Top-ranked Santa Tecla faced 4th ranked Cojute. Host Santa Tecla (7-0) smashed guests from Cojutepeque (4-4) 108-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cojute. They outrebounded Cojute 50-32 including a 39-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santa Tecla shot the lights out from three sinking 19 long-distance shots on high 52.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American point guard Marquise Mosley (175-1997, college: Biola, CA) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Santa Tecla's coach Ernesto Rodriguez felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997, agency: The French Family Consulting) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 assists for lost side. Undefeated Santa Tecla have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with San Salvador. Cojute at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Quezaltepeque. Santa Tecla is looking forward to face Brujos (#7) in Izalco in the next round where they are favorite. Cojute will have a break next round.

Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Andravious Smith (198-1995, college: Tougaloo) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Alejandro Grant contributed with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Dominican forward Juan De Los Santos (193-2002) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for Brujos. Brujos' coach Francisco Lemus rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Undefeated San Salvador (7-0) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 7 victories in a row, which they share with Santa Tecla. Brujos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Santiagueno. San Salvador will play against Metapan (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Brujos will play against the league's second-placed Santa Tecla (#2) and hope to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 105-79 loss to seventh ranked Fantasmas (3-4) in San Vicente on Thursday evening. The game was dominated by American players. Caleb Bowser had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Gorg Alhag responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Fantasmas moved-up to sixth place. Loser Chalchuapa still closes the standings with eight games lost. Fantasmas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chalchuapa will play against Santiagueno (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 10 Quezaltepeque crushed Santiagueno in a road game 115-66.
The best stats of 10th round was 29 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists by Rayner Moquete of Quezaltepeque.

They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Quezaltepeque forced 23 Santiagueno turnovers and outrebounded them 52-38 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quezaltepeque looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Santiagueno's players. Dominican forward Rayner Moquete (185-1990, college: Binghamton) had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Dominican forward Cristian Duran (201-1996, college: Tenn Tech) chipped in 24 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Five Quezaltepeque players scored in double figures.
