Liga MB Round 12: Santa Ana edge Fantasmas by one point- April 3, 2023
Liga MB is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 12 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Cojute - Brujos 80-54 The game with biggest result difference took place in Cojutepeque. Local Cojute (5-4) outscored 8th ranked Brujos (2-6) 80-54 on Sunday night. Cojute dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Brujos' 34. They outrebounded Brujos 57-28 including a 43-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a quality performance of American forward Chase Berry (198-1998, college: Utah Tech) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds and the other American import center Troidell Carter (206-1991, college: Slippery Rock) who added 14 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Four Cojute players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Dominican Edwin Espinal (198-1993) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and Dominican forward Juan De Los Santos (193-2002) scored 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cojute moved-up to third place. Brujos lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. Cojute will meet Quezaltepeque (#6) on the road in the next round. Brujos will play against Santiagueno in Usultan and it may be a tough game between close rivals. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 6th ranked Fantasmas (3-5) to seventh ranked Santa Ana (4-5) 74-73 on Sunday evening. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Marcus Feagin (193-1991) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 22 rebounds. Forward Jose Ortiz (190-1990, college: DelVal) chipped in 26 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Caleb Bowser (193, college: Georgian Court) who recorded a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and Nick Moore (198-1991, college: Alliance) added 10 points and 13 rebounds respectively. Santa Ana moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Quezaltepeque. Fantasmas at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Santiagueno. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. Santiagueno made 26-of-32 charity shots (81.3 percent) during the game, while Metapan only scored two points from the stripe. It was a good game for American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 24 rebounds. Fernando Salcedo (-2003) contributed with 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Santiagueno players scored in double figures. American point guard Leangelo Saravia (183, college: Oakland City) replied with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and Nicaraguan guard Deikel Sanchez (-1996) added 14 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Metapan. Metapan's coach Reynaldo Corrales rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santiagueno moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Fantasmas. Metapan lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with four games lost. Santiagueno will play against Brujos (#9) in Izalco in the next round. Metapan will have a break next round.
