Liga MB Round 15 of Regular Season

The Regular Season in Liga MB is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 15 was guest Independiente's (#6) road victory over Brujos (#7) 92-81 on Monday evening. Independiente dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Brujos' 44. Independiente looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Andravious Smith (198-1995, college: Tougaloo) who scored 37 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import Nick Moore (198-1991, college: Alliance) chipped in 19 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Marcus Millien (188-2000, college: Carlow) who recorded 29 points and 9 rebounds. Brujos' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Independiente maintains sixth place with 7-8 record. Brujos at the other side keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Independiente will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brujos will play at home against Metapan (#3) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Metapan. First ranked A.Lobos faced second-best Metapan. Guests from (13-2) defeated host Metapan (11-3) 101-89. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Metapan. It was a good game for American guard Jerome Savoy (185, college: Pfeiffer) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Michael Melendez contributed with 30 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for Metapan. A.Lobos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-2 record. Metapan at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. A.Lobos will play against Santa Ana (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Metapan will play against Ahuachapan (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for A.Lobos. They maintain first place with 13-2 record. Ahuachapan lost their third game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. A.Lobos will meet at home Santa Ana (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ahuachapan will play against Metapan and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 15 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Santa Tecla was crushed by Santa Ana in a road game 118-80. Cojute beat Salvadorenos at home 80-74. Brujos won against Ahuachapan on the opponent's court 96-92. Independiente unfortunately lost to San Salvador in a home game 70-81.



A.Lobos - Ahuachapan 91-65

Leader A.Lobos delivered the thirteenth victory on Tuesday night. This time they crushed 10th ranked Ahuachapan (1-14) 91-65. A.Lobos looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Ahuachapan's players. It was a great evening for American guard Jerome Savoy (185, college: Pfeiffer) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. His fellow American import center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) helped adding 14 points and 15 rebounds. Five A.Lobos players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 25 rebounds and American guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) scored 26 points and 9 rebounds. The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Santa Tecla's (2-13) road loss to eighth ranked Santa Ana (4-9) 80-118 on Wednesday. Santa Ana looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists. It was a great evening for American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 31 points, 16 rebounds and 23 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward Sam Dorissaint (198-1994, college: B&S Buffalo) helped adding 26 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Dorissaint is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was Honduran Francisco Forbs (198-1999) with 20 points and 8 rebounds and forward Alejandro Barahona (189-1999) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Santa Ana and five Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. Santa Tecla's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Santa Ana maintains eighth place with 4-9 record. Santa Tecla lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. Santa Ana will meet league's leader A.Lobos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santa Tecla will play against Cojute (#4) and hope to secure a win.

Cojute looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cojute made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American center Troidell Carter (206-1991, college: Slippery Rock) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks. His fellow American import guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997) helped adding 20 points. Four Cojute players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Colombian Michael Parra (201-1995) with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 23 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Marcos Menjivar (190-2004) scored 15 points and 6 assists. Salvadorenos' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Cojute maintains fourth place with 10-5 record. Loser Salvadorenos keep the fifth position with seven games lost. Cojute will meet Santa Tecla (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Salvadorenos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from San Salvador San Salvador.

It was a great shooting night for A.Lobos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. It was a good game for American guard Jerome Savoy (185, college: Pfeiffer) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Strangely Ahuachapan outrebounded Brujos 45-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American guard Marcus Millien (188-2000, college: Carlow) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points and 8 rebounds. Gustavo Galdamez (190-1996) helped adding 17 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) produced a triple-double by scoring 15 points, 22 rebounds and 12 assists. Five Brujos and four Ahuachapan players scored in double figures. Brujos maintains seventh place with 6-9 record. Ahuachapan lost their third game in a row. Rather predictable result when third ranked San Salvador (12-3) beat on the road 6th ranked Independiente (7-8) 81-70 on Friday. San Salvador shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican guard Victor Carattini (185-1992, college: PR-Bayamon) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Brayan Garcia (194-1998) helped adding 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. San Salvador's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American swingman Andravious Smith (198-1995, college: Tougaloo) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import Aaren Smith (198-1997, college: UDC) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for San Salvador. They moved-up to second place. Loser Independiente keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. San Salvador's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in San Salvador to the arena Salvadorenos.
