Liga MB Round 20 (Regular Season): A.Lobos are defeated by Santiagueno

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in Usultan between third ranked A.Lobos (14-5) and sixth ranked Santiagueno (10-10) on Saturday night. A.Lobos were crushed by Santiagueno on the road 127-100. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of A.Lobos. Santiagueno dominated down low during the game scoring 92 of its points in the paint compared to A.Lobos' 20. Santiagueno forced 19 A.Lobos turnovers and outrebounded them 61-33 including a 39-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santiagueno looked well-organized offensively handing out 46 assists comparing to just 24 passes made by A.Lobos' players. Worth to mention a great performance of Nicaraguan guard Deikel Sanchez (-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and Colombian point guard William Cabeza (175-1993) who added 4 points, 13 rebounds, 25 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Erick Rojas (183-1996) responded with 41 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Santiagueno maintains sixth position with 10-10 record. A.Lobos at the other side keep the third place with five games lost.
Liga MB top team - San Salvador (19-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Ahuachapan (5-15) 127-79. The winners were led by Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 32 points and 18 rebounds and Nargenis Ulloa supported him with 26 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Even a double-double of 50 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds by American guard Jerome Savoy (185, college: Pfeiffer) did not help to save the game for Ahuachapan. Ahuachapan's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated San Salvador have an impressive 19-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-0 record. Ahuachapan lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 15 games lost.

In the last two games of round 20 Cojute lost to Salvadorenos on the opponent's court 62-67. Independiente was outscored by Santa Ana in a home game 77-97.



Ahuachapan - San Salvador 79-127

Liga MB top team - San Salvador (19-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Ahuachapan (5-15) 127-79. San Salvador dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Ahuachapan's 42 and made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. San Salvador forced 24 Ahuachapan turnovers and had a 40-29 advantage in offensive rebounds. San Salvador players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Ahuachapan's players. The winners were led by Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 32 points and 18 rebounds and Dominican guard Nargenis Ulloa (182-1997) supported him with 26 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Four San Salvador players scored in double figures. The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Cojute's (9-11) road loss to fifth ranked Salvadorenos (12-8) 62-67. Salvadorenos forced 24 Cojute turnovers. The winners were led by Diego Rivera (-2007) who scored that evening 23 points and point guard Erick Rodriguez (179-2006) supported him with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Even 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists by guard Aldahir Avalos (185-1996) did not help to save the game for Cojute. American swingman Shian Bradshaw (194-1995, college: Wake Tech CC) added 14 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Salvadorenos moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Santa Ana. Cojute at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Santa Tecla.

Very predictable result when fifth ranked Santa Ana (12-8) smashed on the road bottom-ranked Independiente (2-18) 97-77. Santa Ana outrebounded Independiente 55-39 including 20 on the offensive glass. Santa Ana players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The winners were led by American center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 29 points, 29 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and Guatemalan point guard Lee Vasquez (173) supported him with 31 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Santa Ana's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 22 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists by American guard Darnell Johnson (201, college: CSUSB) did not help to save the game for Independiente. Guard Cesar Gonzalez (-1994) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 14 assists for the hosts. Four Independiente players scored in double figures. Santa Ana moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Salvadorenos. Independiente lost ninth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom. They share the position with Brujos.
