Liga MB Round 12: No surprise as #1 San Salvador defeats Cojute - Sep 23, 2018

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Liga MB. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Liga MB top team - San Salvador (10-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Cojute (1-9) 122-80. San Salvador dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Cojute's 46. San Salvador forced 21 Cojute turnovers and outrebounded them 48-32 including a 36-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 39 assists comparing to just 20 passes made by Cojute's players. Worth to mention a quality performance of Iranian forward Mike Rostampour (203-91, college: Omaha) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 32 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and center Julio Mancia (202-80) who added 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. San Salvador's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Canadian guard Xzennis Brereton (190-93) with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. San Salvador have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-1 record. Cojute lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. San Salvador are looking forward to face Santa Tecla (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cojute will play against 11 Lobos (#4) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
The game in Metapan supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Santa Tecla (8-3) played at the court of 5th ranked Isidro Metapan (4-8). Santa Tecla smashed Isidro Metapan 87-59. The winners were led by Cuban Lisvan Valdez (200-88) who scored that evening 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Eddie Ishman supported him with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks by South African forward Pieter Prinsloo (208-92, college: Marist) did not help to save the game for Isidro Metapan. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 8-3 record having just two points less than leader San Salvador. Isidro Metapan lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. Santa Tecla will play against league's leader San Salvador at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Isidro Metapan will have a break next round.

Quezaltepeque's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Arthur Talley who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 20 rebounds. Quezaltepeque maintains second position with 10-3 record having just two point less than leader San Salvador. Isidro Metapan lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last two games of round 12 Brujos Izalco destroyed 11 Lobos on the opponent's court 92-73. Quezaltepeque managed to outperform Santa Ana in a home game 71-64.

11 Lobos - Brujos Izalco 73-92

There was a minor upset in Chalchuapa where one of their biggest challengers 11 Lobos (5-7) were crushed by sixth ranked Brujos Izalco (4-6) 92-73 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-94) who scored 32 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Cuban Orestes Torres (204-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds. Brujos Izalco's coach let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Canadian guard Ryan Bennett (193, college: Brock) who recorded 39 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and center Brayan Garcia (193-98) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Brujos Izalco moved-up to fifth place. 11 Lobos at the other side keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Brujos Izalco will meet at home Santa Ana (#7) in the next round. 11 Lobos will play against Cojute in Cojutepeque and hope to secure a win.

Very predictable result when second ranked Quezaltepeque (10-3) defeated at home 7th ranked Santa Ana (3-8) 71-64 on Thursday. Quezaltepeque forced 21 Santa Ana turnovers. The best player for the winners was American center Marc Montavious (206-90, college: Georgetown, KY) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 23 rebounds. The other American import Jeffery Moss (193-93, college: Murray St.) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Puerto Rican point guard Lee Vazquez (173-91, college: Westfield St.) who recorded 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and Guillermo Galdamez (191-90) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Quezaltepeque maintains second position with 10-3 record having just two point less than leader San Salvador. Santa Ana at the other side keeps the seventh place with eight games lost. Quezaltepeque will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santa Ana will play against Brujos Izalco (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican guard Jared Ruiz (188-92) who had a triple-double by scoring 23 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. Nift Al-Janoub (IBL) inked American forward Nigel Grant (201-111kg, college: UNC Pembroke). He joins another USA player Darious Clark which is already in the roster.
Grant played in the summer at San Salvador BC in Salvadorean Liga MB. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. The last season Grant played at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in NCAA2 in the NCAA2 where in 33 games he recorded very impressive stats: 16
