Liga Superior Round 2: Ahuachapan loses to San Marcos - Sep 25, 2018

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Liga Superior. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Ahuachapan (1-1) recorded a loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by San Marcos (2-0) 79-36. San Marcos dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Ahuachapan's 22. San Marcos forced 19 Ahuachapan turnovers and outrebounded them 43-24 including a 33-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Ronald Flores who scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Carlos Sorto chipped in 6 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Jose Linares (185-67) produced 11 points for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Marcos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ahuachapan will play on the road against Chalchuapa (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another exciting game was played in Apopa between Ahuachapan and ABA where Ahuachapan (1-1) beat ABA (0-2) on the road 59-54. Ahuachapan will play against Chalchuapa (#6) on the road in the next round. ABA will play against Nejapa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in San Salvador between Arcense and Halcones. Arcense (3-0) got a very close home victory over Halcones (1-1). Arcense managed to escape with a 2-point win 82-80 on Sunday evening. Teodoro Romero had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 22 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Luis Valle responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Halcones' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 2 winless Pinitos BC lost to undefeated ExSAL ST in Santa Tecla 56-85.

Another exciting game was played in Apopa between Ahuachapan and ABA where Ahuachapan (1-1) beat ABA (0-2) on the road 59-54. Ahuachapan will play against Chalchuapa (#6) on the road in the next round. ABA will play against Nejapa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Arcense - Halcones 82-80

A very close game took place in San Salvador between Arcense and Halcones. Arcense (3-0) got a very close home victory over Halcones (1-1). Arcense managed to escape with a 2-point win 82-80 on Sunday evening. Teodoro Romero (-85) had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 22 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Santos Romero chipped in 24 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Four Arcense players scored in double figures. Swingman Luis Valle (190-97) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and Julio Crespin (184-97) scored 26 points. Halcones' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

ExSAL ST - Pinitos BC 85-56

There was no surprise in Santa Tecla where Pinitos BC (0-3) was crushed by ExSAL ST (3-0) 85-56. ExSAL ST outrebounded Pinitos BC 60-32 including a 45-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 11 blocks. Guard Walter Sanchez (183-87) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and forward Eduardo Recinos (196-88) supported him with 11 points, 21 rebounds and 6 blocks. Five ExSAL ST players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by guard Ruben Palacios (171-84) did not help to save the game for Pinitos BC. Guard Rene Aguilar (170-87) added 8 points and 4 assists for the guests. Pinitos BC's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
