The Regular Season in Liga Superior is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Seventh-ranked Chalchuapa (5-9) made lots of trouble for third ranked ExSAL ST (11-3) in Santa Tecla on Thursday. ExSAL ST managed to secure only one-point victory 74-73. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Chalchuapa. ExSAL ST looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Daniel Rivas (184-0) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Guard Emilio Abullarade (186-89) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Tysean Wood produced a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for the guests. Chalchuapa's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. ExSAL ST have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 11-3 record behind leader San Marcos. Chalchuapa at the other side keeps the seventh place with nine games lost. ExSAL ST are looking forward to face Ahuachapan (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Chalchuapa will play against Nejapa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in San Salvador. First ranked San Marcos faced 3rd ranked Arcense. Guests from San Marcos (12-1) defeated host Arcense (10-4) 64-48. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Arcense. Ronald Flores orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points and 6 rebounds. Roger Diaz contributed with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. San Marcos' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Teodoro Romero (-85) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds for Arcense. San Marcos have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-1 record. Arcense at the other side dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. San Marcos will play against bottom-ranked Pinitos BC (#11) in Ahuachapan in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Arcense will play on the road against Brujos Izalco (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Jonathan Maxwell notched 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort. Ahuachapan moved-up to eighth place. Pinitos BC lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Ahuachapan's next round opponent will be higher ranked Nejapa (#6) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Pinitos BC will play against the league's leader San Marcos (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

In the last game of round 14 Brujos Izalco defeated ABA in a road game 51-47.



Halcones - Juayua 111-65

The game with biggest result difference took place in Sonzacate. Local Halcones (11-2) outscored 10th ranked Juayua (2-13) 111-65 on Tuesday night. Halcones forced 31 Juayua turnovers. American guard Sameen Swint (193, college: Goldey-Beacom) scored 30 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Luis Valle (190-97) chipped in 27 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Halcones players scored in double figures. Roberto Juarez (-83) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Jorge Ochoa (-78) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. There was no surprise in Apopa where 9th ranked ABA (4-11) was defeated by sixth ranked Brujos Izalco (8-4) 51-47. Jose Gonzalez (-96) notched 22 points and 7 steals to lead the effort and forward Gustavo Galdamez (190-96) supported him with 8 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 6 points and 12 rebounds by A Medina did not help to save the game for ABA. Point guard Miguel Rivas (171-94) added 10 points and 5 steals for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Brujos Izalco have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. ABA lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 11 games lost. Brujos Izalco's next round opponent will be higher ranked Arcense (#4) in San Salvador and it may be quite challenging game. ABA will play on the road against Juayua (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Ahuachapan: Ahuachapan (#9) and Pinitos BC (#11). Ahuachapan (4-9) smashed visiting Pinitos BC (1-13) by 29 points 74-45. The game without a history. Ahuachapan led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Pinitos BC's 18. Ahuachapan forced 23 Pinitos BC turnovers and outrebounded them 34-23 including 20 on the defensive glass. American swingman Jonathan Maxwell (192-82) notched 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and guard Wilson Quijano (179-77) supported him with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. Four Ahuachapan players scored in double figures. Even 14 points by guard Rene Aguilar (170-87) did not help to save the game for Pinitos BC. Guard Jose Linares (185-67) added 10 points for the guests. Ahuachapan moved-up to eighth place. Pinitos BC lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Nift Al-Janoub (IBL) inked American forward Nigel Grant (201-111kg, college: UNC Pembroke). He joins another USA player Darious Clark which is already in the roster.
