Liga Superior Round 15: ExSAL ST loses to Ahuachapan - Nov 12, 2018

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Liga Superior. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between third ranked ExSAL ST (11-4) and seventh ranked Ahuachapan (5-10) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. ExSAL ST was defeated by Ahuachapan in Ahuachapan 72-86. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of ExSAL ST. They outrebounded ExSAL ST 43-32 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American swingman Jonathan Maxwell (192-82) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Wilson Quijano (179-77) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Emilio Abullarade (186-89) answered with 24 points for ExSAL ST. Ahuachapan maintains seventh place with 5-10 record, which they share with Chalchuapa. ExSAL ST at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with Arcense. Ahuachapan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Ahuachapan to the arena Pinitos BC.
An interesting game for Halcones (13-2) which played road game in San Marcos against second-best San Marcos (13-2). First ranked Halcones managed to get a 4-point victory 110-106. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It was a great evening for American guard Sameen Swint (193, college: Goldey-Beacom) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Fernando Baides helped adding 22 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Ronald Flores with 32 points and 7 rebounds. San Marcos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Halcones have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-2 record, which they share with defeated San Marcos. Halcones will play against Chalchuapa (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. San Marcos will play against Juayua (#10) and hope to get back on the winning track.

It was a quality performance for Sameen Swint who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 47 points (!!!), 16 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Halcones' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Marvin Martinez came up with 17 points and 5 rebounds for ABA in the defeat. Halcones have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-2 record, which they share with San Marcos. ABA lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Juayua. Halcones will meet Chalchuapa (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. ABA will play against Arcense and hope to secure a win.
The game in Chalchuapa was also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Nejapa (10-7) played at the court of 7th ranked Chalchuapa (5-10). Nejapa defeated Chalchuapa 74-60. The best player for the winners was Demetrius Thomas who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 25 rebounds. Nejapa have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 10-7 record. Chalchuapa at the other side keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Nejapa's next round opponent will be league's second-placed San Marcos on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chalchuapa will play against the league's leader Halcones (#1) and hope to win that game.
The game in Izalco supposed to be also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Arcense (11-4) played at the court of 6th ranked Brujos Izalco (8-5). Arcense smashed Brujos Izalco 96-61 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Brujos Izalco. It was a good game for Teodoro Romero who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks. Brujos Izalco's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Arcense moved-up to third place, which they share with ExSAL ST. Loser Brujos Izalco keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Arcense will face ABA (#9) in Apopa in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Brujos Izalco will play on the road against ExSAL ST in Santa Tecla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 15: San Marcos smashed Pinitos BC on the road 104-60. Juayua won against ABA on its own court 68-65. Bottom-ranked Pinitos BC unfortunately lost to Juayua in a road game 72-80. Nejapa managed to beat Ahuachapan at home 97-80.
The most impressive performance of 15th round was 17 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists by Cesar Castro of Juayua.



San Marcos - Halcones 106-110

An interesting game for Halcones (13-2) which played road game in San Marcos against second-best San Marcos (13-2). First ranked Halcones managed to get a 4-point victory 110-106. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Halcones dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to San Marcos' 56. Halcones had a 35-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Sameen Swint (193, college: Goldey-Beacom) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Fernando Baides (-97) helped adding 22 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Ronald Flores with 32 points and 7 rebounds and Roger Diaz (-99) scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. San Marcos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Halcones have a solid series of four victories in a row. Halcones will play against Chalchuapa (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Liga Superior top team - Halcones (13-2) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed ninth ranked ABA (4-13) in Sonzacate 116-66. Halcones dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to ABA's 42. They outrebounded ABA 42-21 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Halcones looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by ABA's players. It was a quality performance for American guard Sameen Swint (193, college: Goldey-Beacom) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 47 points (!!!), 16 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. C Alfaro accounted for 5 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Halcones' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. No shocking result in a game when second ranked San Marcos (13-2) crushed bottom-ranked Pinitos BC (1-15) in Ahuachapan 104-60 on Sunday. San Marcos dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Pinitos BC's 42. San Marcos forced 38 Pinitos BC turnovers. Pinitos BC was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Pablo Figueroa (-0) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Ronald Flores contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Ruben Palacios (171-84) answered with 29 points and 4 steals and guard Carlos Guzman (180-75) added 6 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Pinitos BC. San Marcos keep a position of league leader, which they share with Halcones. Pinitos BC lost their eleventh game in a row. They stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. The best player for the winners was American swingman Demetrius Thomas (203, college: Cerritos JC) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 25 rebounds. Felix Aleman (-95) chipped in 8 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Erick Rojas who recorded 21 points and Victor Sandoval added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Juayua made 7 blocks. It was a good game for Jose Rivas (-95) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Cesar Castro contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Juayua's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Nift Al-Janoub (IBL) inked American forward Nigel Grant (201-111kg, college: UNC Pembroke). He joins another USA player Darious Clark which is already in the roster.
Grant played in the summer at San Salvador BC in Salvadorean Liga MB. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. The last season Grant played at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in NCAA2 in the NCAA2 where in 33 games he recorded very impressive stats: 16

Halcones - Arcense 122-83 Halcones clinched Liga Superior Clausura title. They edged Arcense in the decisive third game of the championship series. Halcones dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Arcense's 44.
