Pioneros win Basketball Champions League Americas title - Apr 30, 2012
Pioneros are the new champions of Basketball Champions League Americas. The Mexican squad handed 87-79 defeat to Obras last night winning the title with 2-1 record at the Final Four Tournament. The host of this event, La Union, finished with the same numbers, but Pioneros smashed them on Friday 88-70. Robert Hornsby (196-F/C-82, college: Troy) led Pioneros in crucial game against Obras with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Pedro Meza Rogel (186-G-85, college: Arizona W. CC) scored 15 points and Christopher Hernandez (188-PG-83, college: Stanford) added 14 pts. In Obras, Martin Osimani (194-G-81, college: Duquesne) was way better than the others with 26 pts. Julio Mazzaro (190-G-79) had 17 points and Juan Gutierrez (205-F/C-83) 16 scored one less. Quarters: 26-17, 17-24, 24-23, 20-15. On Saturday, Pioneros failed in thriller against Uniceub/BRB. It was a 74-73 win for the Brazilians. As mentioned above, in the first day of the Final Four Tournament Pioneros were too strong for La Union.
