Brazil - Costa Rica 96-42
Brazilian U16 National Team opened win count at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico. They fired past Costa Rica for 1-1 record in Group A. Costa Rica fell at 0-2 record after the loss. Brazil unleashed 34 points in the opening quarter to pile up a 23-point lead. They stayed aggressive offensively in the second quarter. Brazil accumulated a 63:18 halftime lead. The tempo decreased in the third term. Brazil scored just 16 points in the period but still managed to boost their lead by two. The Costa Rican team had no chance to save this one as Brazil coasted to the win at the end. Aline De Moura (185-F/C-97) finished with 19 points for Brazil. Mariane De Carvalho (182-F-97) chipped in 14 points for the winners. Daniela Quesada (167-SG-97) answered with 20 points for Costa Rica. Maria Mora had 5 points in the loss.

Argentina - USA 28-98
USA storm past Argentina in Day 2 of the FIBA Americas U16. The favorites posted a comfortable 98:28 win for 2-0 record. USA started the game with a 16-8 rally and never looked behind in the game. They added 22-7 before the halftime and led 38:15 after 2 quarters. USA erupted with a 38-6 burst in the third period and reached a massive lead entering the last period. They did not slow down at the end and won the last stanza 22-7 for the final result. Asia Durr (180-G-97) paced all the winners with 23 points and Dangerfield Crystal nailed 16. Ogunbowale Arike delivered 15, whilst Dejanae Boykin (188-F-97) collected 12 points and 12 rebounds. Katie Samuelson (191-G/F-97) followed them with 11 points in a win. Ana Paz (178-F-97) replied with 8 points in the losing effort and Giannini Sofia netted 7. Barzola Maribel scored 5, while Delabarba Luciana notched 4.

Group B
Canada - Puerto Rico 66-61
Canada recorded the second straight win at the start of the U16 FIBA Americas Championship. They toppled pesky Puerto Rico for 2-0 record on top of Group B. Puerto Rico fell at 0-2 record after the loss. Julia Chandler (188-F) produced 19 points to lead the charge. Puerto Rico dominated in the opening quarter. They surprised the North American side with an aggressive defence and held Canada to just 10 points in the first ten minutes. Puerto Rico gained a 15:10 lead at the first break. But Canada stepped on the gas in the second period. They fired 27 points to spur ahead for a 37:33 halftime lead. Puerto Rico answered with a stifling defensive performance in the third quarter. They held Canada to just 3 points on the quarter to regain the advantage at 45:40. But it was not enough at the end. Canada answered with a 26:16 run in the fourth stanza and sealed the win at the end. Danielle Garven (185-G/F) and Bridget Charleton chipped in 13 points each for the winners. Patricia Nieves (178-C-97) answered with 18 points for Puerto Rico. Gileysa Penzo (175-SG-97) tossed in 13 points in the loss.

Venezuela - Mexico 56-60
Mexico improved to 2-0 record at the FIBA Americas U16. The team overcame Venezuela U16 60:56 in Day 2 of the tournament. Mexico started the 18-16 rally and added defensive 11-6 in the second frame. Venezuela came from the changing rooms with a huge improvement and posted a 21-13 surge in the third period. Mexico trailed 1 point in the last period, but managed to use the final push and won the game by 4 points. Nayeli Ortiz (174-SF-98) top-scored for the winners with 19 points and Rivera Ornella notched 12. Telles Celilly scored 10, whilst Mazzocco Carmelina netted 5. Maria Montilla (177-PF-97) ended up with 12 points in defeat and Anyibeth Barrios (190-PF-97) as well as Jimenez Mirelis had 8 each. Gil Edmari followed them with 7 points in a loss. Tomorrow Mexico will take on Canada, while Venezuela will face Puerto Rico.
