USA and Canada enter the Final

Puerto Rico - Costa Rica 76-30
Puerto Rico demolish Costa Rica in Cancun at the Classification Round for 5-8 places at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship. Puerto Rico won 76:30 and will take on Venezuela tomorrow. Costa Rica will play against Argentina in the game for the 7th place. Puerto Rico went on an early lead and took 19-8 after the first period. The team added 23-12 surge in the second period and had 22-point halftime advantage. In the second half Puerto Rico limited Costa Rica to just 10 points, The latter managed to post 4 points in the third period and then had 6 in the last stanza. Annelisse Vargas (170-PG-97) stepped up with 13 points and Gladyshka Gerena (165-PG-97) nailed 11. Giolibeth Perez (165-PG-98) and Nieves Patricia delivered 9 points each. Mora Paula ended up with 8 points in the losing effort, whilst Genesis Gaitan (174-PF-98) and Pinnock Kathylee brought 4 each.

Argentina - Venezuela 46-53
Venezuela upset Argentina in the Classification Round for 5-8 places. Venezuela won 53:46 and will play for the 5th place at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship. Argentina will take on Costa Rica in the game for the 7th place. Argentina started the game with 12-11, but failed in the rest of the game. Venezuela came up with a 16-5 surge in the second frame and took 37:27 halftime advantage. Moreover Venezuela won the third period 13-8, while Argentina replied with a 21-13 rally in the last period. Mirelis Jimenez (190-SF-97) top-scored for the winners with 20 points and Montilla Maria collected 11 points and 10 rebounds. Diadenis Vitrago (160-PG-98) scored 9 and Barrios Anyibeth notched 5. Giannini Sofia replied with 16 points and Paladin Oriana brought 9. Luciana Delabarba (167-G-97) scored 6, while Giorgetti Julieta also scored 6 points and grabbed 20 rebounds.

SEMIFINAL
USA - Mexico 101-29
The USA U16 team went on with their commanding performance at the U16 FIBA Americas Championship in Cancun. They dismantled hosting Mexico in yesterdays semifinal. USA will now take on Canada in the Final. Arike Ogunbowale (175-F-97), Katie Samuelson and Lauren Cox (193-F-98) delivered 16 points each for the winners. The USA went on a 37:7 rally in the first frame to clear off. They held Mexico to 5 points in the second quarter as the margin grew deeper. The USA accounted for a 60:12 halftime lead. The North Americans kept pushing in the second half. They outgunned Mexico 18:11 un the third stanza and breezed to the victory at the end. Kalani Brown (193-C-97) dropped 13 points for the winners. Viridiana Mazzocco responded with 10 points for Mexico. Diana Villalobos (168-SG-98) had 4 points in the loss.

Canada - Brazil 64-36
Canada will play in the U16 FIBA Americas Final. They took care of Brazil in yesterdays semifinal clash in Cancun. Mael Gilles (185-F) fired 15 points to lead the North Americas team. Canada held Brazil to 6 points in the opening quarter to open a 9-point lead. Canada stayed excellent defensively in the second quarter. They allowed their opponents to just 11 points in the first half gaining a 33:11 advantage. Canada did not slow down in the third period. They arrived at the final break up 26 points 48:22. Canada never looked back afterwards cruising to the win. Eternati Willock (188-F-97) notched 12 points, while Bridget Charleton (185-G) added 9 points for the winners. Izabela Leite responded with 11 points for Brazil. Mariane De Carvalho had 7 points in the loss.
