Brazil and Canada advance into Final in Puebla

SEMIFINALS
Canada - Mexico 70-42
Canada cruised past Mexico to reach the championship game. Alyssa Jerome (185-C) posted 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead the North American team. Canada accounted for a 46:32 halftime advantage. They held Mexico to just 6 points in the third quarter to ensure an 18-point lead at the final break. Canada went on a 14:4 run in the fourth quarter to ice the victory. Hailey Brown (185-F-99) delivered 14 points in the win. Maria Ruiz (171-SG) responded with 13 points for Mexico.

USA - Brazil 63-72
Brazil advanced into the tournament Final. They shocked the reigning champions USA to reach the title clash. Izabela Nicoletti (170-G-99) posted 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the victory. Brazil got to a strong start. They built a 45:27 halftime lead. Team USA cut the distance at 16-point mark at the final break. The USA sank 22 points in the fourth quarter but could not avoid the defeat. Obalunanma Ugwu (181-F) chipped in 20 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. Alexis Morris (168-G) answered with 21 points and 8 rebounds for the USA.
5-8 Place
Cuba - Honduras 59-53
Cuba held off Honduras in the classification round game. Elianis Armentero (175-PF) knocked down 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the win. Cuba will now take on Argentina in the clash for the fifth overall position. Honduras used a 20:10 run in the second period to open a 3-point halftime lead. But Cuba went on a 19:8 run in the third term to spur ahead. Honduras held their opponents to just 12 points in the fourth frame but could not avoid the defeat. Rachel Contreras finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for Cuba. Nelly Leva (171-PG) responded with 27 points and 10 rebounds for Honduras. Danna Grenald (183-PF-99) netted 11 points and collected 16 rebounds in the loss.

Argentina - Venezuela 64-51
Argentina overcame Venezuela in the classification round game in Puebla. Florencia Chagas (174-G-1) stepped up with 17 points to lead the winners. Argentina held Venezuela to just 3 points in the second frame to gain a 40:18 halftime lead. Venezuela narrowed the distance in the second half but could not avoid the defeat. Malena Velasco (170-SF-99) finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Aguehil Fajardo (183-PF) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds for Venezuela. Dayenlys Veliz (179-C) had 13 points in the loss.
