Group ADominican Republic - Argentina 42-77Argentina outscored Dominican Republic to take the opening victory at the championship. Lucia Operto (191-C-01) and Brenka Fontana (185-C-01) stepped up with 15 points each for the hosts. Argentina accounted for a 39:19 halftime lead. They went on a 23:13 run in the third term to clear off for good. Sofia Acevedo (167-PG-01) delivered 13 points in the win. Ashley Baez (163-G-02) responded with 11 points for Dominican Republic. Venezuela - Canada 38-89 Canada got to a flying start to their campaign in Buenos Aires. They thumped Venezuela in the opener. Brynn Masikewich (186-PF-01) scored 17 points to lead the winners. Canada piled up a 51:14 halftime lead. They controlled the tempo in the second half and marched to the win. Merissah Russell (180-F-02) delivered 15 points and 7 rebounds in the victory. Isabella Anes (168-G-01) responded with 11 points for Venezuela. Group BMexico - Puerto Rico 76-49Mexico raced past Puerto Rico for the opening win at the tournament. Karina Esquer (170-F-00) was pivotal for Mexico with 34 points. Mexico registered a 28:14 halftime advantage. They dropped 48 points in the second half and eased to the win. Gloria Garcia (168-SF-01) accounted for 14 points in the victory. Marieliz Martinez (170-SF-01), Keysha Santiago (162-PG-01) and Sherly Garcia (170-SF-02) responded with 10 points each for Puerto Rico. Colombia - USA 33-91 The USA secured the first victory in Buenos Aires. They dropped Colombia in the opener. Aliyah Boston (190-C) recorded 17 points and 9 rebounds to lead the USA. The North American side used a 32:4 run in the opening quarter to take a comfortable lead. They erupted for 45 points in the second half and raced to the win. Samantha Brunelle (187-C-01) chipped in 13 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and issued 5 assists for the winning side. Hamileth Ulloa (176-SG-01) replied with 7 points for Colombia. |
