USA celebrate third straight title

Canada - USA 45-118
USA clinched the third straight U16 FIBA Americas title. They crushed Canada in the Final on Sunday. USA registered a massive 56-25 halftime advantage. They added 62 points in the second half to ease to the victory. JuJu Watkins (183-G-05) notched 28 points, while Jaloni Cambridge (165-G-05) added 18 points for USA. Cassandre Prosper (188-SF-05) replied with 13 points for Canada.

3-4 Place

Argentina - Mexico 67-72
Mexico nipped Argentina to earn Bronze medals in Guanajuato. Argentina posted a 16-9 lead after ten minutes. But Mexico went on a 45-30 run in the next two periods to spur ahead. Argentina cut the deficit in the fourth frame but Mexico hung on to escape with a narrow victory. Loriette Maciel (179-SG-05) produced 23 points, while Gizel Navarro (160-PG-05) added 18 points for the hosts. Delfina Cergneux (186-PF-05) answered with 17 points for Argentina.

5-6 Place

Brazil - Puerto Rico 49-68
Puerto Rico fired past Brazil to earn the fifth place at the tournament. Puerto Rico ensured a comfortable 41-23 halftime lead. They protected it well throughout the second half and raced to the victory. Sofia Munoz (07) stepped up with 30 points for Puerto Rico. Ana Passos (176-PF-05) and Arianny Francisco (184-C-05) answered with 10 points each for Brazil.

7-8 Place

Chile - Costa Rica 59-58
Chile finished their U16 FIBA Americas campaign on a high note. They nipped Costa Rica to earn the 7th position. Costa Rica secured a 33-20 halftime lead. But Chile answered with a strong 28-14 rally in the fourth frame to snatch the win. Vania Vega (SG-05) delivered 19 points for Chile. Maria Montero (180-C-06) responded with 22 points and 13 rebounds for Costa Rica.
