FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship groups are drawn

The official draw for the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship to be played in Mexico from June 13 to 19, was held at the FIBA Regional Office in the Americas on Thursday in Miami. Prior to the draw procedure, the teams were placed in pairs taking into account their position in the current FIBA Youth Nike Ranking, then the members of each group and their spot were drawn. Here are the draw results:

Group A
1. Mexico
2. USA
3. Puerto Rico
4. Colombia

Group B
1. Brazil
2. Dominican Republic
3. Argentina
4. Canada

The tournament, like the boys', will be played at the Poliforum Zamna in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. In the Group Phase, each team will play one match against each opponent to define the order for the Quarter-Finals. They will meet in this order:
1A vs. 4B
2B vs. 3A
1B vs. 4A
2A vs. 3B
The four (4) winners will advance to the Semi-Finals and the rest will play for positions 5-8. The Semi-Finals winners will play for the gold medal and the losers for the bronze. The four best national teams will qualify for the FIBA U17 Women's World Cup that will take place in Mexico in July 2024.
