Puerto Rico makes final cut and will play against Argentinean U18 team - Jun 22, 2010

Puerto Rico announced the final cut for the U18 national team that will participate in the 2010 FIBA-Americas U18 Championship for Men to be played from June 26-30 in San Antonio, Texas. This event will have live video streaming on www.fibaamericas.com.

The twelve finalists are: Michael Alvarado, Carmelo Betancourt, Rasham Surez, Joel Quiones, Gary Browne, DeJuan Marrero, Emmanuel Andujar, Angel Matas, Christopher Ortiz, Jorge Santos, Matt Lpez and Owen Prez.

This team will play against the Argentinean U18 team today at 5:30 pm at Manuel Iguina Reyes Coliseum in Arecibo and then on June 23 at the DRD complex in San Juan.

Then on Thursday the Puerto Rican team takes off from San Antonio and on June 26 open the tournament against Brazil. Group A also has Canada and Uruguay. Group B has Argentina, Mexico, US Virgin Islands and USA.

The top four teams qualify for the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship for Men.

FINAL USA - Canada 113-74 USA are crowned champions in Saint Catharines. They drubbed hosting Canada in the Final on Saturday. Cole Anthony (188-G-00) came up with 18 points to pace the winners. USA - Argentina 104-92 USA advanced into Final in Saint Catharines. They outlasted Argentina in a tough semifinal clash on Friday. Six players scored in double digits for the North American side. Quentin Grimes (196-G-00) delivered 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. USA sank 54 points in the first half to take a 15-point halftime lead. Dominican Republic - Argentina 70-87 Argentina bettered Dominican Republic to stay in the title quest in Saint Catharines. Marcos Giordano (183-PG-00) delivered 35 points to pace the winners.
