GROUP A
Barbados-Trinidad and Tobago 63:90

Barbados lost the second game at the CBC Championship to fall at 0-2 in the group. Trinidad and Tobago was too god for the opponents taking 90:63 win and to remain undefeated.
Trinidad and Tobago took control of the tempo with a three point play from Ashby on the first possession of the game. The favorites looked better in the period to go on 24:12 advantage after the first 10 minutes. Sydney Rowe helped the team to stay even for 42:30 deficit at the halftime. The teams came back to the court as Trinidad and Tobago remained to control the game. Ian Young hit three consecutive 3-pointers as Trinidad and Tobago ran up a 56:40 lead. In the second half Trinidad secured the game with a good offense to keep the lead in double digits. After 27-19 the winners led the game to 90:63 to register the second straight win in the group.

Julius Ashby (205-F/C-82, college: Colorado) led the way with 22 points, while Ian Young (191-G-81, college: Auburn) and Wilfred Benjamin (201-F/C-84, college: Marist) posted 17 apiece. Steven Lewis chipped in 9 points and Reginald George had 8. Zahir Motara (180-G-81) finished the night with 16 points in the losing effort, whilst Smith Jason and David Gilles (179-G-75) nailed 11 each.

Jamaica-Bahamas 77:73
Jamaica tied the records at 1-1 beating Bahamas 77:73 at the Caribbean Basketball Championships continued in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Bahamas tried hard in the majority of the game but failed in the last period.
The Jamaicans opened the game with 19:14 after the first period, however could not enjoy the lead until the end of the half. Bahamas tied the game at 30:30 and then went on a 44:37 lead at the halftime. In the beginning of the third period Bahamas had a twelve point lead a
Alonzo Hinds (183-G, college: Midland CC) made it 56:44. Jamaica however stayed tough and finished with a 12-4 run to finish down 60:56. The last quarter belonged to Jamaica that produced 21-13 to win the initial game at the Caribbean Basketball Championships in Tortola.
Jamaica showed 55% from the field, while Bahamas had 41%. The latter was better from the three-point line as they made 8/21 and Jamaica had 2/13. Bahamas also showed 78% from the free throw line and Jamaica had 70%.

Weyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86) and Kimani Ffriend (211-C-77, agency: Court Side, college: Nebraska) paced all the winners with 18 points each. Samardo Samuels (203-F-89) and Mike Coburn (183-G-88) netted 11 points each, and Andre Smith had 10 points. Alonzo Hinds led the Bahamas with a game-high 27 points, followed by Quentin Hall (174-G-77, agency: Promotex, college: Gonzaga) and Torrington Cox (201-F-85) with 11 each.
Tomorrow in the last game of the group Jamaica will face Barbados, while Bahamas will take on Trinidad and Tobago.

GROUP B
Bermuda-Cuba 37:95
Cuba reached the semifinals of the CBC Championship in Tortola. The event serves as the qualifying competition for the 2010 Centrobasket. As three top teams will advance, Cuba is already in the top 4. In Day 2 of the tournament Cuba smashed Bermuda 95:37 for 2-0 record.
The favorites started with 23-7 to take the full control of the court. Cuba did not stop and produced 33-8 in the second quarter for 56:15 advantage at the halftime. The Cuban defense left Bermuda with less than ten points in the first three quarters. In the third period Bermuda posted 9 points, while Cuba netted 21. In the last period the teams were killing time as the result of the game was known much earlier. A 18-13 made the total score on the board, 97:35.

Geoffrei Silvestre (202-F/C-79) paced all the winners with 16 points. Alexis Labastida (187-G-77) ended up with 12 and Yudniel Perez (189-G-84) poured in 10. Aaron Jackson finished the night with 14 points in defeat, while John Lee (-82) scored 6.
On day 3 of the preliminary round Bermuda faces Antigua and Cuba takes on the British Virgin Islands.

Antigua-British Virgin Islands 60:67
The British Virgin Islands advanced to the semifinals of the CBC Championship. In Day 2 the home side overcame Antigua 67:60 in the last game of the day.
The British Virgin Islands started the game with 19:12 as the home crown enjoyed the beginning of the game. Halstead Chiverton and Chaurbin Smith shined for the hosts in the second period to give the hosts 35:26 at the halftime.
For Antigua it was a do or die game, so they had nothing to lose. Antigua closed the lead in the third quarter finishing down 51:49 due to
Mario Davis (198-F/G-80, college: Missouri Western) and Xavier Meade (201-C-87) effort. Moreover the teams opened the last period at 51:51, but then British Virgin Islands proved the home superiority.
British Virgin Islands showed 52% from the field and Antigua had 39%. The latter however had a better free throw percentage as they made 18/24 against 17/25.

Halstead Chiverton (-82) top-scored for the winners with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Chaurbin Smith (178-G-81) nailed 13, while Kennedy Bass (196-F, college: Anderson) netted 12. Mario Davis responded with 15 points in the losing case and Xavier Meade added 12.
Today British Virgin Islands and Cuba will play for the top place in the group, while Antigua and Bermuda will play for the initial victory.
