Liga Metropolitana Round 13: Halcones keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Halcones as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Halcones smashed 3rd placed Club Force at home 102-62. Halcones dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Club Force's 38. They outrebounded Club Force 56-33 including a 41-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Halcones looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Point guard David Monterroso (180-79) stepped up and scored 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for the winners and Mario Reyes (-1) chipped in 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side point guard Marcelo Arriola (168-98) responded with 23 points and 8 assists. Halcones have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Club Force at the other side dropped to the fourth place with five games lost.
Very significant was Villa Nueva's (#2, 8-2) victory against 3rd placed Club Force (6-5) 65-60. Center Bernie Diaz (200-81) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Enrique Samayoa accounted for 19 points and 6 rebounds. Center Helmut Esquivel (196-0) came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 19 rebounds for Club Force in the defeat. Villa Nueva (8-2) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place behind leader Halcones. Club Force at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost.

Carlos Florian fired 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Yordic Velasques produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Olmeca moved-up to third place. Loser Coeindeguasa keeps the sixth position with eight games lost.

Coeindeguasa - Olmeca 47-59

The game in was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Olmeca (6-4) played at the court of 6th ranked Coeindeguasa (3-8). Olmeca defeated Coeindeguasa 59-47 on Friday. They outrebounded Coeindeguasa 47-33 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Carlos Florian (-93) fired 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Brandon Schellenger (190-97) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Yordic Velasques (-94) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and David Salguero added 4 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Olmeca moved-up to third place.
