STANTON Rose, the 19-year-old point guard from Colts, saved his best performance for last in this year's National Club Championship, as he led his side's destruction of Ravens 86-66 to help the Bounty-sponsored team to repeat as Champions for the third consecutive year. Rose knocked down seven of his ten attempts from the three-point land in his team-high 25 points, much to the delight of the large and vociferous crowd at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Saturday evening. Ravens' Anthony Moe (206-F/C, college: Millersville) scores an 'and-one', with referee Rawle Toney making the call. The night started with an entertaining performance by Guyana's International recording artiste, Timeka Marshall, who energised the crowd with her several hits, including her infectious music out of the 'Guyana Carnival'. With the crowd already energised, the two sides took to the floor and produced a show that was in keeping with all the pre-game hype. It was Rose who started the ball rolling for the Colts, with the back court player leading a 7 - 0 run for the eventual winners. The Ravens never really found their rhythm since the opening period and even though Dominic Vincente (17 points) had a good shooting night, the team struggled as they went down big by the third. Shelroy Thomas (176-G-90) who had 20 points at the end of the night, teamed up with Rose to become a thorn in the Ravens' players' flesh. Shane Webster (196-F-88), who was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the tournament while finishing with the most points and rebounds, ended the night with 15 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double performance. Ravens' Anthony Moe showed off his all-around game, scoring a game-high 27 points to go along with his 16 rebounds, eight blocks shots and five steals, but his sensational stat-line was overshadowed by the Colts' unselfish basketball. For the win, the Colts collected $600,000, while Ravens had to settle for the second-place prize of $400,000. Meanwhile, in the third-place play-off, Linden's Victory Valley Royals, last year's finalist, made light work of the Kobras, winning 83-57. The Kobras did not have the fire-power to hang with the Linden-based side that shredded the defence of the Kobras in the paint. Trevor Profit had 19 points in the win, while last year's leading scorer, Harold Adams, ended the night with 17 points. Orlando Glasgow also chipped in with 14 points in the win for the Royals who travelled back to their Region 10 community with $200,000. Carlos Edwards scored 13 points and Travis Burnett had 11 points for the poor-shooting Kobras team. At the presentation ceremony held immediately after the tournament, all teams were presented with their prize money and trophies, with President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), Nigel Hinds calling the event a success.
