Guyana breaks 24-year Caribbean basketball Championship jinx! - Jun 30, 2018

LED by a game-high 25 points from Ray Victor (183-G-88, college: Warner), Guyana edged Barbados 76 - 71 to reach the finals of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championship for the first time in 24 years. Anthony Moe (206-F/C-90, college: Millersville) had 17, Stanton Rose (183-PG-99) chipped in with a solid 15-points performance, while Shaine Webster and Travis Burnett both scored eight points in the win for Guyana. In 1994, when the tournament was hosted at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Guyana fell to Barbados in what was, until last evening, their first and last trip to the finals of the regional basketball showpiece. Unlike the women who won the tournament in 1996 in Trinidad and Tobago, the men's side, though being one of the most talented in the Caribbean, have struggled to reach the pinnacle of sport in the Caribbean. However, the team Captained by Stanton Rose are undefeated in Suriname where this year's championship is being held and are now gearing up to play the winner between the Suriname versus Antigua and Barbuda game which was played last evening. Guyana, initially, was schedule to play Antigua and Barbuda who had finished second on their group, but Haiti was disqualified for fielding several ineligible players, as per FIBA rules, and were disqualified. The result last night meant that Guyana will go on as one of the Caribbean's two representative in the FIBA AmeriCup qualifier tournament which starts in September.

Delroy James (ex AEK) agreed terms with Gaziantep - 3 months ago
DELROY JAMES Gaziantep Basketbol (BSL) strengthened their roster with addition of 31-year old American (has also Guyanese passport) forward Delroy James (203-100kg-87, college: Rhode Island). He was about to sign at AEK Athens in Greek A1 league. The last season James played also at AEK Athens (also in A1) where in 27 games he recorded 7.1ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.7apg. Gide Noel
Gries/Oberhoffen adds Noel to their roster - 4 months ago
ProB newcomer Gries/Oberhoffen BC added to their roster 25-year old naturalized Guyanese forward Gide Noel (198-93). He has played for the last two seasons at Aix-Maurienne. In 31 ProB games he recorded 5.8ppg, 2.2rpg and 1.6apg last season. Noel's team made it to the French ProB Leaders Cup Final Four in 2017. He was a member of French U20 National Team back in 2013.
