Knights sweep Panthers to capture NBL title; Murray voted MVP - Dec 10, 2007 Urban Knights played like an elite team all season and it was only fitting that they were crowned the 2007 Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)/National Basketball League (NBL) champions last night at the National Stadium courts. After dismissing defending champions St. George's Slayers in the semi-finals, Knights squared off with surprising finalists Blazing Panthers in their best-of-three series. The series ended in two games as Knights, behind a game-high 24 points from captain Linton Murray and 13 points and 14 rebounds from Andrew Whilby, dominated Game 1 for a decisive 81-67 victory. This was the second NBL title for Knights. Sweep! Last night's victory was even more impressive as Whilby's 22 points and Murray's 19 points helped Knights complete the sweep 94-77. Panthers suprising ouster of Tivoli All Stars in their semi-final clash gave fans reason a reason to believe, but once the game tipped off it was clear they were overmatched. Kirk Ferguson finished with a game-high 24 points and Desmond Harriott added 16 points Third place playoff Tivoli won the playoff for third and fourth place in grand style, defeating Slayers 84-71. Leading scorers were Damion Young with 21 points, Jermaine Peart with 19 points, and Paul Oliphant with 17 points. Lance Grandison scored 19 points to lead Slayers.
