Ethan McKenzie proved the difference maker as Barracks Road Primary School were crowned the Western Basketball Association DHL Mini League Champions for a third time, after staving off the challenge of rivals and neighbours Corinaldi 'A' 18-16 in a pulsating final played at the start of the weekend at the Montego Bay Cricket Club. McKenzie, who had a Man of the Match performance and was voted the Most Valuable Player, rose to bank in a clutch basket as time expired in piloting the title to the home of the blue and white clad Barracks Road. McKenzie ended with game high 11 points as the winners added another crown to the ones won earlier in 2008 and 2011. Barracks Road made a fast start to the contest and held a 5-4 lead at the close of the first quarter before Corinaldi made a charge to close the half with a narrow 10-7 advantage. However, not to be denied, Barracks Road roared to five points in the third quarter and restricted Corinaldi to a mere 2 as they made their surge towards the crown, despite going to end of the quarter 14-12 ahead of their bitter nemesis. Corinaldi quickly leveled things at 14-14, scoring on a fast break at the start of the final quarter, however, Barracks Road were not to be denied and despite the scores again being leveled at 16-16 with 21 seconds left on the clock, the eventual winners held their nerve best. Barracks scored 6 points to Corinaldi's 4 in the final quarter. Anchovy finished third with a 5-4 shoot-out win over Corinaldi 'B'. The team's had played out a 4-4 tie in full time.
