The national women's basketball team failed to progress beyond the group stage following an 81-58 defeat to Jamaica in a Pool B match at the Cairns Convention Centre on Sunday. Malaysia started their campaign on Thursday, losing 86-44 to New Zealand before recording an 85-72 win over India two days later. They needed to beat Jamaica to qualify for the playoff round. On Sunday, Malaysia were only 10 points behind after three quarters before Jamaica extended their lead in the fourth to seal the match and also join New Zealand in the next stage. Cager Kalaimathi Rajintiran (185-C-90) said: "They were too strong and we were not able to control the game.' 'We used up a lot of energy in defence, so our offence slowed down. 'However, we have learned a lot here about strength, physical movement and control. We hope to build from this for future assignments.'
