Gay re-signs at HAKRO Merlins - Aug 20, 2018

Newly promoted HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim (BBL) confirmed in their roster experienced 36-year old American (has also Jamaican passport) power forward Sherman Gay (201-82, college: Loyola Mary). He played there last season. In 38 ProA games he recorded 14.8ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.1apg and 1.1bpg. Gay helped them to make it to the final after they ended regular season as second best team. A very spectacular season in his career as he was selected All-German 2.Bundesliga Pro A Player of the Year, All-German 2.Bundesliga Pro A Defensive Player of the Year and voted to 1st Team.
He ended the previous (2016-17) season at Bucaneros (LPB) in league where in 14 games he averaged 12.9ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.1spg. But the most of that year Gay spent at KTP Basket (Korisliiga) in league. In 36 games he was second best scorer with impressive 19.2ppg and had 6.9rpg, 1.4spg and 1.9bpg. Great season indeed as he was voted to All-Finnish Korisliiga 2nd Team and League Player of the Week.
Gay is quite experienced player. Thanks to his pro career he managed to play on three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America) in four different countries. Gay has played previously professionally in France (Saint Quentin, Etendard de Brest, STB Le Havre, Chalon/Saor and JL Bourg), Hungary (Zalakeramia-ZTE KK), Italy and Finland (Vilpas).
He is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career at HAKRO Merlins.
Gay attended Loyola Marymount University until 2004 and it will be his 15th (!!!) season as a professional player.
The scouts decsribe him following way: Has the size of a 3 forward and the skills of a 4. Is finding his role in European leagues, where he can play stably at PF.
NBA Coach Larry Brown of the Charlotte Bobcats said:
"The biggest thing when you're building a team and you don't necessarily have the depth of the more established teams, you've got to find guys that can play more than one position," Brown said. " I think the more guys that can be in that kind of situation the more flexibility you have."

HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim roster for 2018-2019:

Brion Rush
Michael Cuffee
Frank Turner

Konrad Wysocki
Joschka Ferner

Sherman Gay
Joe Lawson

Coach: Tuomas Iisalo
