We bring you last week's top performances from Jamaicans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international swingman
Antoinette Bannister (178-93, college:
E.Carolina, currently plays in Portugal). She was the major contributor in
Carnide's victory against the tenth-ranked CAB Madeira (2-5)
86-81 in the Portuguese Liga Feminina in Saturday night's game.
Bannister recorded 23 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 36 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her second season in pro basketball. Carnide Clube/Holos (4-3) is placed sixth in the Liga Feminina.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Bannister has relatively good stats this year: 10.3ppg, 2.9rpg, 1.6apg, 1.1spg, 3FGP: 30.3% in seven games she played so far.
She played for the Jamaican senior national team one years ago.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced former international power forward
Vanessa Gidden (192-85, agency:
ProDep Management, college:
Hofstra, currently plays in Spain). Gidden led
Campus Promete to a victory against the 16th-ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (2-5)
70-58 in the Spanish LF2 (second division) last Sunday.
She scored 11 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists.
Campus Promete Logrono (6-0) is placed first in Group B.
So far her team won all six games in the Regular Season.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
Gidden has individually a very good year with high stats. She averages: 16.8ppg, 10.7rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 46.7%.
Gidden played for the Jamaican national team in 2013.
#3. The Jamaican player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward
Shereesha Richards (185-93, college:
Albany, currently plays in Spain). She could not help
AE Sedis (3-3) to beat Gipuzkoa UPV (5-1). It was not Richards' best game last Saturday.
She scored only 2 points in 9 minutes on the court.
AE Sedis lost
57-66 on the road to the higher-ranked (#3) Gipuzkoa UPV.
But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen.
This year Richards' overall stats are: 3.8ppg, 2.0rpg, 2FGP: 46.2% and FT: 87.5% in five games.
She played for the Jamaican national team four years ago.
#4. Center
Ladonna Lamonth (185-90, currently plays in Canada) was not able to help the
Concordia University (0-0) in their game against the Rouge et Or (0-2) in the U Sports.
Lamonth recorded 6 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. It was her first game for Concordia University this season.
The Concordia University (#2) was defeated
66-61 in Quebec City by the Rouge et Or.
Lamonth is also Jamaican national team player.
