Last season's semi-finalists Holland Saints will take on Lucea Flames at the Montego Bay Cricket Club today, starting at 7:00 pm as the Western Basketball Association Elite League continues with one game. The league got under way on Saturday with a double-header where last season's champions Catherine Hall All-Stars and losing finalists Cricket Club Knights scored contrasting wins over Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors and Sav-Elite Titans, respectively. Catherine Hall All-stars came from behind to edge promoted Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors by one point, 73-72, while Cricket Club Knights beat Sav-Elite Titans at the Montego Bay Cricket Club. Eight teams will take part in this shortened season that will be completed before the JABA National Basketball League gets under way in June. The teams will play each other once before a quarter-final round that would see teams facing each other in a best-of-three series with the winners of the four series meeting in a best-of-three semi-finals. Former champions Granville Jaguars and Cornwall Courts Chargers Lucea Flames who will meet on Thursday, will also take part. On Saturday, Michael Schloss scored a game-high 25 points and had 11 rebounds for Catherine Hall, who overturned a double-digit deficit after the third quarter to beat Warriors by a point. Catherine Hall led by three points, 17-14, after the first quarter, but trailed by a point, 29-30, at half-time and went further behind after the third quarter by 12 points, 46-58, before roaring back in the final quarter to snatch victory. Errol Steele also scored 18 points for All-Stars, Goyan Malcolm (186-PG-83) scored nine points and had five steals, while Jermaine Rerrie had 12 rebounds. Tafari Vassell (G) had a double-double for Warriors with 14 points and 18 rebounds, Levar Rose scored 15 points and Faizon McDermott scored 12 points.
In the first game, Titans got off to a quick start but could not maintain their momentum and were quickly overhauled by Knights, last season's beaten finalists who ran away for a 27-point win. Knights led 18-13 after the first quarter, extended the lead to 10 points, 39-29, at half-time before putting the game out of reach of the Westmoreland club with a 19-point, 65-46, lead after the third quarter. Omar Campbell had a double-double 14 points and 12 rebounds for Knights, Jermaine Allwood scored 16 points, while Daniel Malcolm and Demoy Daye both scored 15 points, Rayan Gardiner scored 11 points and Lemar Mitchell scored 10 for the winners. Richard Chambers came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points for Titans, Richard Russell scored 11 points, while Rushane Drummond scored eight points and had 10 rebounds.

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Jamaicans who are currently playing abroad. Shevon Thompson (213-C-93) led Oostende to a victory over the closely-ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut in the Belgian Euromillions League in Sunday night's game.    [read more]
WBA Round 6: First victory of Lucea - 7 days ago
What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL. Lucea's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Titans, where they defeated Titans (1-3) 66-53 on Thursday. Lucea maintains seventh position with 1-4 record. Titans at the other side keep the sixth place with three games lost. Lucea are looking forward to face bottom-ranked...   [read more]

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Jamaicans who are currently playing abroad. Experienced Dane Johnson (208-C-86) could not help Caballeros de Culiacan (12-7) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Caballeros de Culiacan was badly defeated 100-84 on the road by the lower-ranked (#4) Halcones de Ciudad Obregon.    [read more]
