Wins for Berazategui and Quimsa in Group C- March 26, 2021
Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.
Group CQuimsa - Leonas 77-64The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Colombian Leonas (0-1). Visitors were defeated by Argentinian Quimsa (1-0) 77-64. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It looked good early as Leonas took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Quimsa took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 13 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Leonas' 24. Quimsa forced 21 Leonas turnovers. Leonas were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by center Johanna Puchetti (191-87) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Luciana Delabarba (167-97) supported her with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds by Brazilian power forward Julia Torres (190-93, college: MWSU) did not help to save the game for Leonas. Marta Peralta (171-94) added 21 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Quimsa maintains first position with 1-0 record, which they share with Berazategui. Defending Colombian champion Leonas still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Victoria. Quimsa will play against Victoria (#4) in Quito in the next round. Leonas will play at home against the league's leader Berazategui and hope to get finally their first victory. Berazategui smashed much higher ranked Ecuadorian Victoria 81-62. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Berazategui. Victoria managed to win fourth quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Berazategui forced 19 Victoria turnovers and outrebounded them 45-30 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Celeste Cabanez (178-86) who helped to win the game recording 12 points and 5 rebounds and Candela Gentinetta (181-1) who added 13 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Berazategui players scored in double figures. At the losing side Belarusian forward Tatyana Troina (188-81, college: S.Carolina) responded with 18 points and Belarusian center Marina Kress (193-80) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Quimsa. Victoria at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Leonas. Victoria will play next round against strong Quimsa trying to get back on the winning streak. Berazategui will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Leonas in Medellin.
