Akeem Scott
AKEEM SCOTT

Jamaican-American Guard Akeem Scott (185-G-83) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Laguneros, receiving a Interperformances LNBP Player of the Week award for round 18.
The 35-year old player was the main contributor (24 points, eight rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Abejas (#5, 7-11) 79-72. Laguneros is placed at 4th position in their group in Mexican LNBP. Laguneros is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 9-9 record. Scott turned to be Laguneros' top player in his first season with the team. Akeem Scott averages this season 16.6ppg, 5.9rpg and 4.1apg. Worth to mention Scott played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second best player in last round's games was 29-year old American Yancy Gates (206-C/F-89) of Abejas. Gates had a very good evening with a double-double of 19 points and 22 rebounds. Bad luck as Abejas lost that game 72-79 to slightly higher-ranked Laguneros (#4, 9-9). Abejas managed to keep the same 5th spot in North. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 7-11 record. Gates is a newcomer at Abejas, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was swingman Manuel Hernandez (193-F/G-91) of Huracanes (#7). Hernandez scored 27 points. Despite Hernandez's great performance Huracanes lost 74-77 to slightly higher-ranked Angeles (#7, 4-14). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Huracanes can only dream about fighting for top spots in South. They have rather bad season and 3-15 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Hernandez he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Hernandez has a very solid season. In 18 games in Mexico he scored 15.6ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Isaac Gutierrez (204-C-84) of Mineros - 11 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Kennedy Jones (188-G-89) of Correcaminos - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Wendell McKines (198-F-88) of Mineros - 10 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Carlos Lopez-Sosa (208-F-90) of Angeles - 18 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
8. P.J. Reyes (196-G/F-88) of Laguneros - 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Bryan Davis (206-F/C-86) of Angeles - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Aaron Perez (196-F-86) of Correcaminos - 14 points and 13 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
