The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Capitanes (13-8) in Monterrey on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by second ranked Fuerza Regia (16-6) 90-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Capitanes. Fuerza Regia dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Capitanes' 36. They outrebounded Capitanes 45-25 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Puerto Rican swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 7 assists. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Fuerza Regia's coach Francisco Olmos used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Carl Jones (180-91, college: St.Joseph's) answered with 17 points and 5 assists for Capitanes. Fuerza Regia have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 16-6 record behind leader Capitanes. Capitanes at the other side still keep top position with eight games lost. Fuerza Regia are looking forward to face Abejas (#5) in Guanajuato in the next round. Capitanes will play at home against Huracanes (#7) and are hoping to win this game.
Seventh-ranked Angeles (6-16) were very close to win a game against first ranked Mineros (17-5). Mineros managed to secure only one-point victory 80-79. However their fans expected much easier game. It was a great evening for American forward Wendell McKines (198-88, college: N.Mexico St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Jonathan Rodriguez helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds. Puerto Rican forward Carlos Lopez-Sosa (208-90, college: UNLV) responded with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Mineros maintains first place with 17-5 record. Angeles lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the seventh position with 16 games lost. Mineros will play against Libertadores (#6) in Queretaro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Angeles will play at home against Correcaminos and hope to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in between Soles and Lenadores. Second ranked Soles (13-9) got a very close victory on the road over 3rd placed Lenadores (11-9). Soles managed to escape with a 1-point win 92-91 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lenadores. It was an exceptional evening for Lance Goulbourne who led the winners and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Jarrid Famous came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds for Lenadores in the defeat. Soles maintains second place with 13-9 record having four points less than leader Capitanes, which they share with Aaguacateros. Newly promoted Lenadores keep the third position with nine games lost. Soles will meet at home Santos (#6) in the next round. Lenadores will play against Panteras in Aguascalientes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Stedmon Lemon orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!). Laguneros' coach Eric Weissling rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panteras maintains fourth place with 12-10 record. Newly promoted Laguneros keep the fifth position with 12 games lost. Panteras will face higher ranked Lenadores (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Laguneros will play against Aaguacateros in Michoacan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 23 Abejas were beaten by Correcaminos on the road 77-66. Huracanes lost to Aaguacateros on its own court 88-93.
The most impressive performance of 23th round was 19 points and 12 rebounds by Maurice Sutton of Aaguacateros.



Santos - Libertadores 80-81

A very interesting game took place in San Luis Potosi. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 6th ranked Santos (9-13) to sixth ranked Libertadores (8-13) 81-80 in the fight for the sixth place. Libertadores players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was power forward Gerard DeVaughn (206-88, college: Stillman) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Reggie Larry (198-86, college: Boise St., agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. DeVaughn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Lyonell Gaines (198-93, college: Morehead St.) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Jaron Martin (178-94, college: Cal-Irvine, agency: Duran International) added 13 points and 8 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Libertadores maintains sixth place with 8-13 record which they share with defeated Santos. Santos at the other side keep the sixth position with 13 games lost. Libertadores' next round opponent will be league's leader Mineros and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

A very close game took place in between Soles and Lenadores. Second ranked Soles (13-9) got a very close victory on the road over 3rd placed Lenadores (11-9). Soles managed to escape with a 1-point win 92-91 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lenadores. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Lance Goulbourne (203-89, college: Vanderbilt) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Branden Dawson (198-93, college: Michigan St.) accounted for 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Four Soles players scored in double figures. American-Lebanese power forward Jarrid Famous (209-88, college: S.Florida) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and American-Puerto Rican Javier Mojica (190-84, college: Cent.Conn.St.) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Lenadores in the defeat. Soles maintains second place with 13-9 record having four points less than leader Capitanes, which they share with Aaguacateros. Newly promoted Lenadores keep the third position with nine games lost. The game in Torreon was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Panteras (12-10) played at the court of 5th ranked Laguneros (10-12). Panteras defeated Laguneros 106-93 on Saturday. Panteras made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Stedmon Lemon (198-92, college: Johnson C. Smith) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!). His fellow American import guard Hameed Ali (188-93, college: Texas A&M-CC) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 17 assists and American guard Josh Ramirez (198, college: Dominican, CA) added 29 points in the effort for Laguneros. Five Panteras and four Laguneros players scored in double figures. Laguneros' coach Eric Weissling rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. This time Correcaminos used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Guanajuato 77-66 on Sunday night. Correcaminos outrebounded Abejas 43-31 including 36 on the defensive glass. International guard Jose-David Estrada (194-94, agency: Pro Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Kennedy Jones (188-89, college: Arlington Baptist) contributed with 17 points and 4 steals for the winners. Correcaminos' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American power forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import guard Spencer Williams (188-95, college: Wooster) added 10 points and 4 assists in the effort for Abejas. Four Abejas players scored in double figures. Correcaminos maintains fourth place with 11-11 record. Loser Abejas keep the fifth position with 12 games lost.
