Sixth-ranked Santos (9-16) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Capitanes (16-8) in San Luis Potosi on Thursday. The visitors from Mexico managed to secure only two-point victory 110-108. However their fans expected much easier game. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Santos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field). The former international guard Gabriel Giron (192-88) contributed with 22 points for the winners. American forward Lyonell Gaines (198-93, college: Morehead St., agency: Best of You Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for Santos. Capitanes have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 16-8 record. Santos lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 16 games lost. Capitanes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santos will play again at home against the league's leader Capitanes (#1) and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.

Newly promoted Lenadores maintains third position with 14-9 record having just three points less than leader Mineros. Abejas at the other side keep the fifth place with 14 games lost. Lenadores will again play against Abejas (#5) in Guanajuato in the next round. Abejas will have a break next round.

Fourth ranked Correcaminos (13-12) got a very close home victory over one of their biggest challengers Panteras (12-13). Correcaminos managed to escape with a 2-point win 138-136 in the game for the fourth place. Jose Guitian notched a double-double by scoring 27 points and 17 rebounds to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 48 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 10 assists by Hameed Ali did not help to save the game for Panteras. Panteras' coach Ronald Guillen rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Correcaminos maintains fourth position with 13-12 record which they share with defeated Panteras. Panteras lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 13 games lost. Correcaminos will again meet at home Panteras (#4) in the next round. Panteras will have a break next round.
An interesting game for Mineros (20-5) which hosted in 3rd ranked Aaguacateros (13-10). First ranked Mineros managed to get a 9-point victory 82-73. The best player for the winners was Nick Harney who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Mineros have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 20-5 record. Aaguacateros lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with ten games lost. Mineros' next round opponent will be again Aaguacateros (#3) in Michoacan, which may be the game of the day.
An interesting game for Fuerza Regia (18-7) which hosted in Monterrey second-ranked Soles (15-10). Second ranked Fuerza Regia managed to get a 5-point victory 95-90. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Soles. Jeleel Akindele orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Fuerza Regia's coach Francisco Olmos used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Fuerza Regia maintains second position with 18-7 record having just three point less than leader Mineros which they share with defeated Soles. Loser Soles keep the second place with ten games lost. Fuerza Regia will face again league's second-placed Soles in Mexicali in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.

In the last two games of round 26 Angeles were beaten by Laguneros on the road 90-84. Huracanes were destroyed by Libertadores on its own court 65-96.



Lenadores - Abejas 84-82

Third ranked Lenadores (14-9) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Abejas (11-14) 84-82 on Thursday evening. Lenadores made 16-of-18 charity shots (88.9 percent) during the game. American-Lebanese power forward Jarrid Famous (209-88, college: S.Florida) scored 28 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and American-Puerto Rican Javier Mojica (190-84, college: Cent.Conn.St.) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Laguneros (11-12) beat 7th ranked Angeles (7-18) in Torreon 90-84 on Thursday. They outrebounded Angeles 43-32 including 33 on the defensive glass. Laguneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Jamaican-American guard Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. American guard Rayes Gallegos (188-90, college: Nebraska) contributed with 26 points for the winners. Scott is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Puerto Rican point guard Filiberto Rivera (189-82, college: UTEP) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 assists and American power forward Bryan Davis (206-86, college: Texas A&M) added 17 points in the effort for Angeles. Four Laguneros and five Angeles players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Laguneros maintains fifth position with 11-12 record. Angeles at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the seventh place with 18 games lost. Laguneros will face again Angeles (#7) in Puebla in the next round.

DeVaughn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.
