LYONELL GAINES

American Forward Lyonell Gaines (198-F-93, agency: Best of You Sports) put on an amazing game in the last round for Santos, receiving a Interperformances LNBP Player of the Week award for round 27.
The 25-year old player was the main contributor (39 points, eight rebounds) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Capitanes (#1, 16-9) 107-101. Santos maintains the 6th position in their group in Mexican LNBP. Santos is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 10-16 record. In the team's last game Gaines had a remarkable 69.2% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He turned to be Santos' top player in his first season with the team. Former Morehead State University star has very solid stats this year. Gaines is in league's top in points (2nd best: 23.0ppg), rebounds (5th best: 9.3rpg) and averages impressive 58.4% FGP. Worth to mention Gaines played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second best player in last round's games was 27-year old American Gary Ricks (185-G-91) of Abejas. Ricks had a very good evening with 35 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Abejas was edged by slightly higher-ranked Lenadores (#3, 15-9) 98-97. Abejas managed to keep the same 5th spot in South. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 11-15 record. Ricks is a newcomer at Abejas, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-C-91) of league's top team Capitanes. Romero scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Despite Romero's great performance Capitanes lost 101-107 to the lower-ranked Santos (#6, 10-16). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Capitanes needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in South. Their record is 16 victories and 9 lost games. Romero has a great season in Mexico. After 25 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.8rpg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Stedmon Lemon (198-F-92) of Panteras - 34 points and 6 rebounds
5. Gerard DeVaughn (206-F/C-88) of Libertadores - 19 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Joaquin Villanueva (207-C-86) of Mineros - 18 points and 13 rebounds
7. B.J. West (211-F-89) of Santos - 18 points and 19 rebounds
8. Jarrid Famous (209-C/F-88) of Lenadores - 26 points and 7 rebounds
9. Aaron Perez (196-F-86) of Correcaminos - 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Jeleel Akindele (216-C-83) of Fuerza Regia - 13 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
