The most exciting game of round 6 in the CIBACOPA took place in Ciudad Obregon. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Venados (5-7) to first ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-4) 85-83 on Wednesday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It was a good game for American guard Gary Ricks (185-91, college: Drake) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 6 assists. The other American import power forward Germain Jordan (198-86, college: Dillard) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American center Nick Waddell (200-89, college: Grand Valley St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds for Venados. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon have an impressive six-game winning streak. Despite that victory Halcones de Ciudad Obregon went down to second position due to points difference, which they share with Culiacan. Venados at the other side dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon is looking forward to face Ostioneros de Guaymas (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Venados will play against Pioneros Los Mochis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Guaymas. Sixth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (6-5) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 8th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (4-9) 84-82 on Wednesday evening. American forward Jeremy Hollowell (203-94, college: Georgia St.) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Joel James chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Dominican guard Juan Coronado (193-83) with 32 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Rayos de Hermosillo have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side keep the eighth position with nine games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will play against higher ranked Gigantes (#4) in Guadalajara in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play at home against the league's second-placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#2) and hope to get back on the winning track.

CIBACOPA top team - Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-4) added another victory to their record. This time they beat sixth ranked Venados (5-7) 111-103. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon made 26-of-28 charity shots (92.9 percent) during the game. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon outrebounded Venados 60-40 including a 41-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Lyonell Gaines (198-93, college: Morehead St., agency: Best of You Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). The other American import forward Timajh Parker-Rivera (202-94, college: Towson) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 21 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Gaines is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Nick Waddell (200-89, college: Grand Valley St.) who recorded 32 points and 4 assists and Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) added 20 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals respectively. Five Halcones de Ciudad Obregon and four Venados players scored in double figures. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon have an impressive six-game winning streak. Sixth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (6-5) got a very close home victory over 8th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (4-9). Rayos de Hermosillo managed to escape with a 3-point win 73-70 on Tuesday evening. Rayos de Hermosillo outrebounded Ostioneros de Guaymas 45-32 including a 40-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. Forward Jeremy Hollowell (203-94, college: Georgia St.) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and guard Terrence Drisdom (196-92, college: Cal Poly Pomona) supported him with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Five Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures.
