The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The biggest surprise took place in Culiacan where host Caballeros de Culiacan (9-4) beat league's leader Tijuana Zonkeys (9-5) 104-92 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tijuana Zonkeys. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Caballeros de Culiacan made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Tijuana Zonkeys helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) fired 38 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American-Antiguan Joel McIntosh (201-90, college: La Roche) chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Martin Knezevic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center DeAngelo Riley (206-88, college: Azusa Pacific) produced 20 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Caballeros de Culiacan keeps a position of league leader. Defending champion Tijuana Zonkeys dropped to the second place with five games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Culiacan. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Caballeros de Culiacan will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo at home.
The game had a very big importance for fifth-ranked Gigantes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Gigantes defeated much higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan on the road 107-97. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Caballeros de Culiacan. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian-American Obinna Oleka (203-93, college: ASU, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Arim Solares contributed with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American-Jamaican center Dane Johnson (208-86, college: Hofstra) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for Caballeros de Culiacan. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Caballeros de Culiacan at the other side still keeps top place with four games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will play next round against strong Rayos de Hermosillo trying to get back on the winning streak. Gigantes will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas at home.
A very close game took place in Tijuana between Tijuana Zonkeys and Halcones de Ciudad Obregon. First ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (9-5) got a very close home victory over 3rd placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-6). Tijuana Zonkeys managed to escape with a 2-point win 83-81 in the fight for the second place. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for Mychal Ammons who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side Timajh Parker-Rivera responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Tijuana Zonkeys went down to second position due to points difference. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Hermosillo and La Paz. Tijuana Zonkeys will meet league's leader Caballeros de Culiacan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play against Pioneros Los Mochis and hope to secure a win.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-6) against eighth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (5-10) on Friday night. Visiting Halcones de Ciudad Obregon was defeated by Ostioneros de Guaymas in a tough game in Guaymas 73-79. The game was also dominated by American players. It was an exceptional evening for Jonathan Durley who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 19 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ostioneros de Guaymas maintains eighth place with 5-10 record. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with six games lost. Ostioneros de Guaymas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Gigantes (#6) in Guadalajara and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play at home against Pioneros Los Mochis and hope to win that game.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tijuana. First ranked Tijuana Zonkeys faced 3rd placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon. Host Tijuana Zonkeys (9-5) defeated guests from Ciudad Obregon (7-6) 75-70. American players dominated the game. Mychal Ammons fired a double-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Despite that victory Tijuana Zonkeys went down to second position due to points difference. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with six games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will face league's leader Caballeros de Culiacan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play against Pioneros Los Mochis and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 7 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Guaymas defeated La Paz in a road game 100-94. Hermosillo beat Los Mochis at home 89-78. Jalisco lost to Culiacan on the opponent's court 73-84. La Paz managed to outperform Guaymas in a home game 89-85. Bottom-ranked Los Mochis managed to beat Hermosillo on the road 86-84. Jalisco was defeated by Hermosillo on its own court 95-99. Venados smashed Los Mochis in Mazatlan 87-68.



Culiacan - Jalisco 97-107

The game had a very big importance for fifth-ranked Gigantes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Gigantes defeated much higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan on the road 107-97. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Caballeros de Culiacan. Strangely Caballeros de Culiacan outrebounded Gigantes 56-39 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Caballeros de Culiacan was plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian-American Obinna Oleka (203-93, college: ASU, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. The former international power forward Arim Solares (202-83) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American-Jamaican center Dane Johnson (208-86, college: Hofstra) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and Barry Chinedu (-94) added 24 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Caballeros de Culiacan. Five Gigantes and four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Caballeros de Culiacan at the other side still keeps top place with four games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will play next round against strong Rayos de Hermosillo trying to get back on the winning streak. Gigantes will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas at home.

A very close game took place in Tijuana between Tijuana Zonkeys and Halcones de Ciudad Obregon. First ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (9-5) got a very close home victory over 3rd placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-6). Tijuana Zonkeys managed to escape with a 2-point win 83-81 in the fight for the second place. Tijuana Zonkeys had a 32-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Center DeAngelo Riley (206-88, college: Azusa Pacific) helped adding 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). There was a minor upset in La Paz where 6th ranked Mantarrayas (7-6) were defeated by eighth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (5-10) 100-94 on Tuesday. Ostioneros de Guaymas made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Duke Mondy (193-90, college: Oakland) fired 28 points (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. His fellow American import power forward Jonathan Durley (203-88, college: Wichita St.) chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. American point guard Tyrone White (201-90, college: CSU Bakersfield) produced 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) and Colombian guard Michaell Jackson (190-87) added 20 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Ostioneros de Guaymas and five Mantarrayas players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas maintains eighth place with 5-10 record. Newly promoted Mantarrayas dropped to the third position with six games lost. Ostioneros de Guaymas will face higher ranked Gigantes (#6) in Guadalajara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mantarrayas will play on the road against Venados in Mazatlan and hope to win that game.

Rayos de Hermosillo looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Pioneros Los Mochis' players. American players dominated the game. Forward Jeremy Hollowell (203-94, college: Georgia St.) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Guard Terrence Drisdom (196-92, college: Cal Poly Pomona) chipped in 20 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo's coach Dan Tacheny allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Nate Hickman (193-96, college: Columbia) produced 23 points and 9 rebounds and power forward John Mitchell (208-91, college: Virginia Union) added 18 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. Rayos de Hermosillo moved-up to third place, which they share with Obregon and La Paz. Loser Pioneros Los Mochis stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Mantarrayas dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Ostioneros de Guaymas' 38. They outrebounded Ostioneros de Guaymas 35-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. Mantarrayas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American-Dominican Antonio Pena (204-86, college: Villanova) fired a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Colombian guard Michaell Jackson (190-87) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Hameed Ali (188-93, college: Texas A&M-CC) produced 27 points and 6 assists and Dominican guard Juan Coronado (193-83) added 21 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mantarrayas moved-up to third place, which they share with Obregon and Hermosillo. Pioneros Los Mochis looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Anthony Glover-Jr (185-96, college: Indiana, PA) fired 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. His fellow American import guard Nate Hickman (193-96, college: Columbia) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Worth to mention Glover Jr. played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. The former international guard Cezar Guerrero (185-92, college: Fresno St., agency: Best of You Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists and American guard Craig Sword (190-94, college: Mississippi St.) added 21 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Pioneros Los Mochis maintains ninth place with 3-9 record. Loser Rayos de Hermosillo dropped to the third position with six games lost. Pioneros Los Mochis will face higher ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rayos de Hermosillo will play against the league's leader Caballeros de Culiacan having rather not much hope for a victory.

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Guadalajara where sixth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (7-6) won against 5th ranked Gigantes (6-6) 99-95 on Friday. Five Rayos de Hermosillo and four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo moved-up to third place, which they share with Obregon and La Paz. Newly promoted Gigantes dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will face league's leader Caballeros de Culiacan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gigantes will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (3-9) were crushed at home by seventh ranked Venados (6-7) 87-68 on Friday. Venados outrebounded Pioneros Los Mochis 50-34 including 36 on the defensive glass. American forward Decensae White (198-88, college: San Francisco St.) fired 25 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) chipped in 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. White is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Venados players scored in double figures. Venados' coach Eric Weissling used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American power forward John Mitchell (208-91, college: Virginia Union) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import forward Devonta Pollard (203-94, college: Houston) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Venados maintains seventh place with 6-7 record. Loser Pioneros Los Mochis stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Venados will face higher ranked Mantarrayas (#5) in La Paz in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pioneros Los Mochis will play on the road against Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#3) and hope to win that game.

Round in CIBACOPA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Culiacan where host Caballeros de Culiacan (9-4) beat league's leader Tijuana Zonkeys (9-5) 104-92 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tijuana Zonkeys. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Caballeros de Culiacan made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Tijuana Zonkeys helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) fired 38 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American-Antiguan Joel McIntosh (201-90, college: La Roche) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Martin Knezevic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center DeAngelo Riley (206-88, college: Azusa Pacific) produced 20 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Caballeros de Culiacan and five Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan keeps a position of league leader. Defending champion Tijuana Zonkeys dropped to the second place with five games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Culiacan. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Caballeros de Culiacan will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo at home.

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (7-6) against eighth ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (5-10) on Friday night. Visiting Halcones de Ciudad Obregon was defeated by Ostioneros de Guaymas in a tough game in Guaymas 73-79. The game was also dominated by American players. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Jonathan Durley (203-88, college: Wichita St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 19 rebounds. Guard Hameed Ali (188-93, college: Texas A&M-CC) accounted for 12 points, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winning side. Four Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Forward Timajh Parker-Rivera (202-94, college: Towson) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Germain Jordan (198-86, college: Dillard) added 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Halcones de Ciudad Obregon in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ostioneros de Guaymas maintains eighth place with 5-10 record. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with six games lost. Ostioneros de Guaymas' next round opponent will be higher ranked Gigantes (#6) in Guadalajara and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play at home against Pioneros Los Mochis and hope to win that game.
