The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

CIBACOPA round 8 most important game was a victory of Tijuana Zonkeys over their close opponent Caballeros de Culiacan 90-82 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Tijuana Zonkeys made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. American guard Paul Marigney (191-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import Greg Smith (198-92, college: Colorado St.) contributed with 20 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. American forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds for Caballeros de Culiacan. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion (10-5) keeps a position of league leader. Caballeros de Culiacan at the other side keeps the second place with six games lost. They share the position with Obregon and Hermosillo. Tijuana Zonkeys are looking forward to face Mantarrayas (#5) in La Paz in the next round. Caballeros de Culiacan will play on the road against Venados in Mazatlan and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Mazatlan. Fifth ranked Mantarrayas (8-6) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 6th ranked Venados (7-8) 80-79 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Venados. Worth to mention a great performance of Colombian guard Michaell Jackson (190-87) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 7 rebounds and Benjamin Puckett who added 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. American forward Joshua Ramirez (198-94, college: Dominican, CA) responded with 25 points and 6 assists. Newly promoted Mantarrayas maintains fifth position with 8-6 record. Venados at the other side dropped to the seventh place with eight games lost. Mantarrayas will play against league's leader Tijuana Zonkeys at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Venados will play against Caballeros de Culiacan (#4) and hope to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Guadalajara between Rayos de Hermosillo and Gigantes. Fourth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (9-6) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked Gigantes (7-7). Rayos de Hermosillo managed to escape with a 3-point win 98-95 on Saturday evening. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by Craig Sword who scored that evening 23 points and 6 rebounds. Even 20 points by Jordan Williams did not help to save the game for Gigantes. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Obregon and Culiacan. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will meet at home league's second-placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gigantes will play against Pioneros Los Mochis (#9) and hope to secure a win.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (9-6) against fourth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (9-6) on Tuesday night. Host Caballeros de Culiacan was defeated by Rayos de Hermosillo in Culiacan 97-83. The best player for the winners was Craig Sword who scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Obregon and Culiacan. Rayos de Hermosillo's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Venados in Mazatlan and hope to win that game.
The game in Guaymas was also quite interesting. Third ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (9-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (5-12). Halcones de Ciudad Obregon defeated Ostioneros de Guaymas 81-65 on Saturday. Germain Jordan orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon moved-up to second place, which they share with Culiacan and Hermosillo. Loser Ostioneros de Guaymas keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will face Rayos de Hermosillo (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against Gigantes (#6) in Guadalajara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 8: Venados beat Los Mochis on the road 106-99. Jalisco destroyed Guaymas on its own court 93-74. Bottom-ranked Los Mochis unfortunately lost to Obregon in Ciudad Obregon 92-94.
The most impressive performance of 8th round was 12 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists by Timajh Parker-Rivera of Obregon.



Jalisco - Hermosillo 95-98

A very close game took place in Guadalajara between Rayos de Hermosillo and Gigantes. Fourth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (9-6) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked Gigantes (7-7). Rayos de Hermosillo managed to escape with a 3-point win 98-95 on Saturday evening. Rayos de Hermosillo made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by guard Craig Sword (190-94, college: Mississippi St.) who scored that evening 23 points and 6 rebounds and forward Jeremy Hollowell (203-94, college: Georgia St.) supported him with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Even 20 points by guard Jordan Williams (198-92, college: N.Texas) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. Point guard Jaron Martin (178-94, college: UC Irvine, agency: Duran International) added 19 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Obregon and Culiacan. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Venados (7-8) beat on the road bottom-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (3-11) 106-99 on Saturday. Venados dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Pioneros Los Mochis' 38 and made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Venados looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 9 assists. American center Nick Waddell (200-89, college: Grand Valley St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Scott is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Venados' coach Eric Weissling used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Anthony Glover-Jr (185-96, college: Indiana, PA) replied with 30 points and his fellow American import forward Devonta Pollard (203-94, college: Houston) added 15 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Pioneros Los Mochis. Five Venados and four Pioneros Los Mochis players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Venados went down to seventh position due to points difference. Pioneros Los Mochis lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 11 games lost. Venados will face higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. American power forward Germain Jordan (198-86, college: Dillard) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. The most exciting game of round 13 in the CIBACOPA took place in La Paz.
