Antonio Pena
Coincidentally all hosts won their games. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (10-6) in La Paz on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Mantarrayas (9-7) 80-72. Strangely Tijuana Zonkeys outrebounded Mantarrayas 30-18 including 21 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American-Dominican Antonio Pena (204-86, college: Villanova) stepped up and scored 27 points and 6 assists for the winners and American center Benjamin Puckett (205-83, college: Clayton St.) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was American Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Mantarrayas moved-up to fifth place. Defending champion Tijuana Zonkeys still keep top position with six games lost. Mantarrayas are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (#9) on the road in the next round. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against Gigantes (#7) in Guadalajara and are hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (10-7) against seventh ranked Venados (9-8) on Friday night. Visiting Caballeros de Culiacan was defeated by Venados in Mazatlan 89-72. Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and Joshua Ramirez accounted for 19 points and 6 rebounds. American-Jamaican center Dane Johnson (208-86, college: Hofstra) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds for Caballeros de Culiacan in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Venados moved-up to sixth place. Caballeros de Culiacan at the other side dropped to the second position with seven games lost. They share it with Obregon and Hermosillo. Venados will play against league's second-placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Caballeros de Culiacan will have a break next round.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (10-7) against fourth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (10-7) on Friday night. Visiting Halcones de Ciudad Obregon was defeated by Rayos de Hermosillo in a tough game in Hermosillo 80-88. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Halcones de Ciudad Obregon. The best player for the winners was Jeremy Hollowell who scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Gary Ricks who recorded 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Rayos de Hermosillo moved-up to second place, which they share with Obregon and Culiacan. Rayos de Hermosillo will meet at home Ostioneros de Guaymas (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Halcones de Ciudad Obregon will play against Venados (#6) in Mazatlan and hope to secure a win.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Culiacan. Third ranked host Caballeros de Culiacan (10-7) defeated 4th placed Rayos de Hermosillo (10-7) 87-80. Rather expected game in Guadalajara where 8th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (5-13) were defeated by sixth ranked Gigantes (8-7) 105-89 on Wednesday.
