RICHARD WILLIAMS

Defending champion Zonkeys de Tijuana (CIBACOPA) strengthened their roster with addition of 31-year old American point guard Richard Williams (178-80kg-87, college: San Diego State, agency: HMS). It is actually his comeback to Tijuana Zonkeys as he has played here before. Williams moved there from BK Pardubice in NBL league in Czech Republic where he started the season, but left the team last month. In 22 NBL games he recorded 13.5ppg, 4.8rpg, 5.0apg and 1.0spg this season. The last season Williams played at Lions (ProA) in German league. In 36 games he averaged 14.4ppg, 3.6rpg, 5.7apg and 1.8spg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-German 2.Bundesliga Pro A Honorable Mention and League Player of the Week.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Williams won German 2.Bundesliga Pro A championship title in 2013. He was also voted Eurobasket.com All-German 2.Bundesliga Pro A Player of the Year and Eurobasket.com All-German 2.Bundesliga Pro A Import Player of the Year back in 2013.
Thanks to Williams' pro career he managed to play on three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America). Williams has played previously professionally in Iceland (FSU Selfoss), ABA (The San Diego Surf and San Diego S.) and Germany (SC Rasta Vechta, Phoenix Hagen, Deutsche Bank Skyliners, Kirchheim Knights and Hannover Tigers).
He attended San Diego State until 2009 and it is his tenth season as a professional player.
The scouts decsribe him following way: Very fast guard that can play either one or two. Great at pushing the break. Can score by shooting the three or using his explosiveness to beat his man. Gets to the basket and scores in traffic. A specialist in steals that uses his quickness to intimidate on defense. Great ball control. Gets the whole team involved when playing the point but can takeover a game at any time. Great future in European basketball.
