There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (16-8) in Mazatlan on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by seventh ranked Venados (12-14) 89-84. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rayos de Hermosillo. Venados made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Nick Waddell (200-89, college: Grand Valley St.) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) who added 12 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Jeremy Hollowell (203-94, college: Georgia St.) with 30 points. Venados maintains seventh position with 12-14 record. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side still keeps top place with eight games lost. Venados are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (#9) at home in the next round. Rayos de Hermosillo will play against Tijuana Zonkeys (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Los Mochis. Eighth ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (10-13) saved a 2-point victory at home edging higher ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (13-13) 83-81 on Tuesday evening. Americans were the main players on the court. The winners were led by forward Devonta Pollard (203-94, college: Houston) who scored that evening 19 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals and John Mitchell supported him with 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Even a double-double of 27 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists by Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) did not help to save the game for Tijuana Zonkeys. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pioneros Los Mochis maintains eighth position with 10-13 record. Defending champion Tijuana Zonkeys keep the fourth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with La Paz. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against the league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

Pioneros Los Mochis will face higher ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against the league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 12: La Paz won against Culiacan on the opponent's court 91-80. Tijuana managed to outperform Guaymas in a home game 78-73. Jalisco recorded a loss to Obregon on the road 87-80. Jalisco defeated Venados on its own court 81-73. Culiacan were beaten by Guaymas in a road game 93-77. Jalisco won against Venados at home 98-92. Culiacan unfortunately lost to Guaymas on the opponent's court 86-92.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 19 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists by Tim Bond of Guaymas.



Culiacan - La Paz 80-91

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (12-12) was defeated at home by third ranked Mantarrayas (13-13) 91-80 on Saturday. Mantarrayas shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 58.3 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban guard Reynaldo Garcia (187-90) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and American-Dominican Antonio Pena (204-86, college: Villanova) who added 19 points and 8 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) with 23 points and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Jeffery Stubbs (189-91, college: Jackson St.) scored 14 points and 6 assists. Five Mantarrayas and four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Despite that victory Mantarrayas went down to fourth position due to points difference, which they share with Tijuana. Caballeros de Culiacan lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with 12 games lost. Mantarrayas will face league's second-placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Pioneros Los Mochis (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Glen Rice-Jr (198-91, college: Georgia Tech) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and power forward Germain Jordan (198-86, college: Dillard) who added 19 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Halcones de Ciudad Obregon players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Brandon Swannegan (206-93, college: Tulsa) with 26 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and guard Jordan Williams (198-92, college: N.Texas) scored 22 points.
