Huracanes - Correcaminos 85-100 There was a minor upset in Tampico where 5th ranked Huracanes (4-5) were defeated by seventh ranked Correcaminos (2-13) 100-85. The winners were led by Spanish-Dominican center Jhonatan Araujo (208-96) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds and Senegalese center Mamadou Ndiaye (229-93, college: UC Irvine) supported him with 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Even 16 points and 9 rebounds by American guard Kyle Lamonte (191-84, college: William Carey) did not help to save the game for Huracanes. His fellow American import power forward Germain Jordan (198-86, college: Dillard) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Correcaminos and five Huracanes players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Correcaminos maintains seventh position with 2-13 record. Huracanes lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with five games lost. Correcaminos will have a break next round. Huracanes will play again on the road against Correcaminos (#7) in Ciudad Victoria and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Eighth ranked Laguneros (1-12) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 6th ranked Plateados (3-5) 78-77 on Thursday evening. It was a good game for American forward Trent Steen (203, college: UAPB, agency: One Motive Sports) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Center Diego Herrera (201-90) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Laguneros players scored in double figures. Egyptian-American center Omar Samhan (211-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Filiberto Rivera (189-82, college: UTEP) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Plateados. Laguneros maintains eighth position with 1-12 record. It was Plateados' third loss in a row. Newly promoted team keep the sixth place with five games lost. Laguneros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Plateados will play again on the road against Laguneros (#8) in Torreon and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Aaguacateros smashed 5th ranked Abejas in Michoacan 91-65. 25 personal fouls committed by Abejas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American center Jerome Meyinsse (207-88, college: Virginia) who scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. The other American import swingman Rodney Green (196-88, college: La Salle) chipped in 18 points. Four Aaguacateros players scored in double figures. Aaguacateros' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mineros made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. The winners were led by Dominican Victor Liz (193-86) who scored that evening 22 points and American Greg Smith (198-92, college: Colorado St.) supported him with 7 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Mineros players scored in double figures. Even 15 points and 9 rebounds by American center Jarred Shaw (208-90, college: Utah St.) did not help to save the game for Dorados. His fellow American import guard Isaiah Wilkerson (191-90, college: NJIT) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Dorados' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mineros have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-1 record. Newly promoted Dorados dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Luke Martinez (193-90, college: Wyoming, agency: Pro Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and American power forward David Laury (206-90, college: Iona) who added 12 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Soles players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American-Puerto Rican forward Derek Reese (201-93, college: Tennessee) with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and American guard Ronnie Boyce-III (191-95, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) scored 14 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Soles moved-up to third place, which they share with Fuerza Regia. Loser Panteras keep the second position with three games lost. Soles will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santos shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. The winners were led by American point guard Raymond Cintron Cortes (183-90, college: MTSU) who scored that evening 18 points and 4 assists and the other American import point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-94) supported him with 21 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Even a double-double of 14 points and 13 assists by Venezuelan point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) did not help to save the game for Astros. Puerto Rican swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) added 20 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Santos have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Huracanes. Newly promoted Astros keep the fifth position with six games lost. Santos' next round opponent will be higher ranked Capitanes (#4) in Mexico and it may be quite challenging game. Astros will play again on the road against Santos in San Luis Potosi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
