LNBP Round 15: Capitanes lose to Abejas- October 28, 2019
The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Abejas - Capitanes 91-86 The biggest surprise took place in Guanajuato where host Abejas (7-6) beat league's leader Capitanes (9-4) 91-86 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Capitanes. Abejas dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Capitanes' 38. They outrebounded Capitanes 35-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. Abejas looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American-Puerto Rican swingman Alex Franklin (198-88, college: Siena) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Spencer Williams (188-95, college: Wooster) chipped in 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 20 points and Panamanian forward Ernesto Oglivie (203-89) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Five Capitanes players scored in double figures. Abejas maintains fifth place with 7-6 record. Capitanes at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They share it with Aaguacateros. They were replaced at the leadership position by Mineros. Capitanes will play next round against strong Panteras trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Abejas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was international guard Luke Martinez (193-90, college: Wyoming, agency: Pro Sports) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. American forward John Flowers (200-89, college: WVU, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 11 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Puerto Rican forward Luis Hernandez (206-88) who recorded 24 points and 9 rebounds and Dominican-Puerto Rican swingman Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) added 21 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Soles have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-3 record. It was an exceptional evening for Venezuelan point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists. Puerto Rican swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) accounted for 24 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. American forward Nick Harney (203-92, college: Fairmont St.) came up with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Georgian-Puerto Rican guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) added 28 points respectively for Plateados in the defeat. Four Astros and five Plateados players scored in double figures. Plateados' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
