LNBP Round 18: Soles keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Soles as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Soles smashed 6th ranked Astros in Mexicali 94-67. Soles looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was international guard Luke Martinez (193-90, college: Wyoming, agency: Pro Sports) who scored 16 points and 4 assists. American forward Chris Reyes (201-94, college: Pepperdine) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Puerto Rican swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) who recorded 16 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Soles have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Newly promoted Astros dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Panteras. Astros will play next round against strong Aaguacateros trying to get back on the winning streak. Soles will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Angeles in Puebla.
Top ranked Capitanes (12-5) recorded its fifth loss in Mexico. Hosts were defeated by eighth ranked Libertadores (7-11) 91-83. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Capitanes. It was a good game for American-Dominican forward Justin Satchell (203, college: St.Leo) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jonathan Rodriguez contributed with 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Dominican guard Rigoberto Mendoza (190-92) replied with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Capitanes. Capitanes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Libertadores maintains eighth position with 7-11 record. Capitanes at the other side dropped to the second place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Libertadores will play against higher ranked Abejas (#4) in Guanajuato in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Capitanes will play on the road against Santos in San Luis Potosi and hope to get back on the winning track.

Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dorados have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Angeles lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 17 games lost. Dorados will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Angeles will play against the league's leader Soles (#1) in Mexicali and hope to win that game.

In the last two games of round 18 Panteras were defeated by Abejas in Guanajuato 73-67. Aaguacateros beat Santos at home 83-68.



Capitanes - Libertadores 83-91

Top ranked Capitanes (12-5) recorded its fifth loss in Mexico. Hosts were defeated by eighth ranked Libertadores (7-11) 91-83. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Capitanes.
