LNBP Round 23: Astros defeat Abejas in the closest game of the week- November 22, 2019

Abejas - Astros 102-103 The most exciting game of round 23 in the LNBP took place in Guanajuato. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 6th ranked Abejas (12-9) to fifth ranked Astros (12-12) 103-102 on Tuesday evening. Astros made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Abejas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Abejas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 8 rebounds. American point guard Tyrone White (201-90, college: CSU Bakersfield) helped adding 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. American guard Michael Smith (193-95, college: CBU) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import guard Spencer Williams (188-95, college: Wooster) scored 26 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Astros and five Abejas players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Astros went down to sixth position due to points difference. Abejas at the other side dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The former international point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (175-86, college: WKU, agency: Pro Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 9 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Canadian forward Jean-Emmanuel Pierre-Charles (203-93, college: Ottawa) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and American center BJ West (211-89, college: Jackson St.) added 13 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Santos. Santos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Capitanes maintains second place with 16-5 record having just three points less than leader Mineros. This time they beat sixth ranked Plateados (7-16) 89-78. Mineros shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a quality performance for American forward Reyshawn Terry (203-84, college: UNC) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Dominican Victor Liz (193-86) accounted for 24 points for the winning side. Jamaican-American power forward Adrian Uter (201-84, college: Hofstra, agency: BeoBasket) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Filiberto Rivera (189-82, college: UTEP) added 11 points and 8 assists respectively for Plateados in the defeat. Four Plateados players scored in double figures. Mineros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 17-6 record, which they share with Fuerza Regia. Plateados lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the sixth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Santos. Mineros will play against Libertadores (#7) in Queretaro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Plateados will play against Lenadores and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Correcaminos dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Laguneros' 44. They outrebounded Laguneros 34-19 including 25 on the defensive glass. Correcaminos players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Senegalese center Mamadou Ndiaye (229-93, college: UC Irvine) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points and 7 rebounds (on 15-of-17 shooting from the field). American guard Kennedy Jones (188-89, college: Arlington Baptist) contributed with 20 points and 7 assists for the winners.
