LNBP Round 26: Huracanes prevail against Fuerza Regia

There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Round 26 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Fuerza Regia (19-8). They were defeated by fourth ranked Huracanes (14-10) 96-78 on Thursday night. Huracanes outrebounded Fuerza Regia 43-30 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American power forward Germain Jordan (198-86, college: Dillard) scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Ivan Johnson (203-84, college: CS San Bernar., agency: Haylett Sports) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Puerto Rican swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Ole Miss) responded with 21 points and 4 assists. Huracanes maintains fourth position with 14-10 record. Fuerza Regia at the other side dropped to the second place with eight games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Mineros. Fuerza Regia will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Huracanes will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Fuerza Regia in Monterrey.
Leading Soles (19-6) recorded its sixth loss in Mexico. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Capitanes (18-5) 83-77. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Panamanian forward Ernesto Oglivie (203-89) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Joel James supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Even 18 points and 6 rebounds by international guard Luke Martinez (193-90, college: Wyoming, agency: Pro Sports) did not help to save the game for Soles. Soles' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Capitanes have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 18-5 record behind leader Mineros. Soles at the other side still keep top place with six games lost. Capitanes will again play against league's leader Soles in Mexicali in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Soles will have a break next round.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Dorados (16-7) against fifth ranked Lenadores (14-12) on Thursday night. Host Dorados were defeated by Lenadores in a tough game in Chihuahua 66-70. The best player for the winners was Benito Santiago who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Matthew Bryan-Amaning produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Dorados' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Lenadores maintains fifth position with 14-12 record. Newly promoted Dorados keep the third place with seven games lost. Lenadores will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Dorados will play again against Lenadores and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Panteras. Devon Collier orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Astros' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Astros maintains sixth position with 13-12 record. Panteras at the other side keep the fourth place with nine games lost. Astros' next round opponent will be again higher ranked Panteras (#4) in Aguascalientes and it may be quite challenging game.

Laguneros lost nineteenth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 24 games lost. Mineros will have a break next round. Laguneros will play again against the league's leader Mineros (#1) and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 26: Abejas won against Angeles on the opponent's court 82-65. Plateados managed to outperform Correcaminos in a home game 95-89. Libertadores rolled over Santos on the road 99-74.



Angeles - Abejas 65-82

Very expected game in Puebla where 9th ranked Angeles (1-24) were defeated by fifth ranked Abejas (13-9) 82-65 on Thursday. Abejas forced 19 Angeles turnovers. American guard Spencer Williams (188-95, college: Wooster) scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Jordan Washington (203-93, college: Iona, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Panamanian swingman Alejandro Grant (199-93) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and guard Eder Herrera (194-94) scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Abejas maintains fifth position with 13-9 record. Angeles lost eighteenth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with 24 games lost. Abejas will have a break next round. Angeles will play again at home against Abejas (#5) and hope to win that game.

The game in was also worth to mention about. 4th ranked Panteras (15-9) played at the court of sixth ranked Astros (13-12). Astros managed to secure a 5-point victory 80-75. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Panteras. Astros players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. American-Puerto Rican Devon Collier (203-91, college: Oregon St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. Venezuelan point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) contributed with 9 points and 7 assists for the winners. Astros' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Gary Ricks (185-91, college: Drake) replied with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import center Benjamin Puckett (205-83, college: Clayton St.) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Panteras. Four Astros and five Panteras players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Astros maintains sixth position with 13-12 record. Panteras at the other side keep the fourth place with nine games lost. Astros' next round opponent will be again higher ranked Panteras (#4) in Aguascalientes and it may be quite challenging game.

Dorados - Lenadores 66-70

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Dorados (16-7) against fifth ranked Lenadores (14-12) on Thursday night. Host Dorados were defeated by Lenadores in a tough game in Chihuahua 66-70. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
