LNBP Round 38: Capitanes defeat Libertadores in the closest game of the week

There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Seventh-ranked Libertadores (12-24) gave a tough game to second ranked Capitanes (23-12) in Queretaro on Sunday. The visitors from Mexico managed to secure only one-point victory 83-82. However their fans expected much easier game. Capitanes outrebounded Libertadores 51-30 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Joel James (208-94, college: UNC) had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 23 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (175-86, college: WKU, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Guard Miguel Ramirez (186-94) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. Capitanes maintains second position with 23-12 record having four points less than leader Mineros. Libertadores at the other side keep the seventh place with 24 games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Ciudad Victoria. Seventh ranked Correcaminos (8-28) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 4th ranked Lenadores (21-14) 99-96 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Lenadores. Senegalese center Mamadou Ndiaye (229-93, college: UC Irvine) notched a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds to lead the effort and Bernardo Polanco supported him with 24 points and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds by American center Chris Daniels (205-84, college: Texas A&M-CC) did not help to save the game for Lenadores. Correcaminos maintains seventh position with 8-28 record. Lenadores at the other side keep the fourth place with 14 games lost.

The best player for the winners was John Flowers who scored 21 points. Soles' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tyrone White produced 24 points for the hosts. Soles maintains first position with 28-6 record. Newly promoted Astros dropped to the fifth place with 15 games lost.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Zacatecas. First ranked host Mineros (27-7) defeated 3rd ranked Fuerza Regia (24-12) 99-92. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Fuerza Regia. Jaime Lloreda orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mineros have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 27-7 record. Fuerza Regia at the other side keeps the third place with 12 games lost.
The game in Fresnillo was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Huracanes (18-17) played at the court of 6th ranked Plateados (14-20). Huracanes defeated Plateados 95-82 on Sunday. Aaron Harper had a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Huracanes have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 18-17 record. Plateados lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the sixth place with 20 games lost.

In the last two games of round 38 Abejas were destroyed by Panteras on the opponent's court 96-70. Dorados outscored Angeles in a home game 113-69.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by Isaiah Wilkerson of Dorados.



Astros - Soles 80-92

The game between Top Four teams took place in Guadalajara. 4th ranked host Astros (21-15) lost to first ranked Soles (28-6) 92-80. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Astros. Soles looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Soles made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward John Flowers (200-89, college: WVU, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 21 points. American-Argentinian center Daniel Amigo (208-95, college: Denver) chipped in 9 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Soles' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Tyrone White (201-90, college: CSU Bakersfield) produced 24 points and American-Puerto Rican Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St.) added 8 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Soles maintains first position with 28-6 record. Newly promoted Astros dropped to the fifth place with 15 games lost.

Correcaminos - Lenadores 99-96

Mineros players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Fuerza Regia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Panamanian center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) contributed with 14 points and 5 assists for the winners. American point guard Jerime Anderson (187-89, college: UCLA, agency: Best of You Sports) replied with 23 points and 6 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots) and Nigerian-American power forward OD Anosike (203-91, college: Siena) added 12 points and 15 rebounds in the effort for Fuerza Regia. Very predictable result in Chihuahua where second ranked Dorados (25-10) smashed 9th ranked Angeles (2-33) 113-69 on Sunday. Dorados shot 67.6 percent from the field. Dorados had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 63.0 percentage. Dorados looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists comparing to just 21 passes made by Angeles' players. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Isaiah Wilkerson (191-90, college: NJIT) scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Jaron Martin (178-94, college: UC Irvine, agency: Duran International) chipped in 18 points during the contest.
